Description

Building this understanding from a young age builds empathy in young people, as well as giving them a more realistic world view. You could build on the ideas introduced in the book and build a Belonging Tree. This can be a great activity to show differences and similarities between each child. How will 'We Are All Different' educate and engage children? Children will relate to the characters, their likes and dislikes and their characteristics, and will recognise some people in their own class who share some of these similarities. After all, living a life true to who you really are at your core is the only way to experience fulfilling connections with others and lasting happiness. Showcasing your students’ work. A bright, colourful display board littered with your students’ work and art is a great way to showcase their fabulous efforts. Displays such as these are often changed and updated throughout the year, which adds to the interactive feel and shows the class’ progress as the year goes on. Video animations like this one are brilliant for introducing your class to new topics, as they can make them much easier to understand. It can be difficult for children to stay focused when receiving a lot of new information in the classroom, so introducing that information through an engaging video can really help the learning process. Reproduction is fundamental to evolution and we are genetically programmed with a host of psychological mechanisms to ensure that we reproduce. Asking these questions will help children to get to know each other and learn that everyone is different and unique. This is a fantastic activity to do at the start of the school year or during an 'All About Me' topic, encouraging children to learn about each other and themselves.Follow one brave koala with two daddies as she sets out on a mission to make every family feel included in Part of the Party. We have a whole range of resources and activities that sit alongside our all about me story books for EYFS. You can use these alongside the 'we are all different' PowerPoint to have valuable and meaningful discussions with your learners about diversity and inclusion. Take a look at the full range of additional resources to support this book. You can also find more ways to celebrate diversity in the classroom over on our 5 Diversity Games and Activities blog. Using our This is Me Worksheets: One of the most important lessons to learn as a child is to embrace and celebrate our differences. Fostering a general atmosphere of kindness in your classroom not only helps children improve their social skills but also sets them up fantastically for the rest of their lives. Teaching children to be proud of their differences, whilst also being respectful towards others, can hopefully inspire them to be positive and kind people when they grow older. Great for starting discussions! Explore more resources about celebrating diversity here. What other resources like this Diversity PowerPoint can I use?

Circle time is a commonly used activity by schools. But what is it? Circle time, or group time, is when students often come together and engage in a form of teacher-led activity. It can often involve a series of short games and activities to help improve engagement and key skills. Displays are a vital part of any classroom. Otherwise, your learning space can look quite bleak and empty, especially when there are plenty of bare walls to be used. Below are a couple of different ways to use classroom displays, and the benefits they bring. Humans are born with some hard-wired behaviours that are a part of our genetic heritage. These are the behaviours we demonstrate just because we are humans. We’re attracted to potential partners, fall in love with them, and get attached to them. We have parenting instincts that motivate us to take care of our young ones.EYFS This Is Me Worksheet - Our Face Template is a fantastic resource for young children to use to learn how to draw their own features. This can be done from memory or even using a mirror. Is it true that we are all the same? Or are we all different? People seem to argue on this topic endlessly. Consider the following scenarios: This colourful diversity poster can make a fantastic addition to your classroom display. Helping you when teaching your children all about celebrating their differences, whatever they may be! This alone has largely made the study of mind possible. If everyone’s subconscious worked differently, we wouldn’t have known whatever little we know about it today. Be thoughtful. This is a sensitive topic, so try to approach it as tactfully and respectfully as possible.

There are a number of different holidays, events and festivals throughout the year that exist as a way of giving us a chance to celebrate our differences. LGBT History Month takes place annually during February, and is a month-long celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, as well as the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. The overall message of the story - that everyone is unique, and that there's no right or wrong way of being - will help make your classroom a more friendly and accepting environment, where children get on with one another regardless of their differences. With this diversity poster, the message 'We're all different. We're all friends' encourages children to not judge others based on their differences, and that everyone can be friends even though they may be different to one another. It also provides visual support for your teaching, that differences and diversity are something to be celebrated.

In the second worksheet, there is a blank writing space, but a word bank of colours and adjective for children to use when describing their hair and eyes. Here are some encouraging quotes about being different and being yourself and celebrating diversity and inclusion. I personally created these quotes about being different. As they go through preschool, primary school, secondary school and beyond, children will meet many, many different types of people. Not all of these people will be the same or similar to them. Ask pupils to spend a few moments thinking about the ways in which they are different from the people next to them. Do they look different? Do they like different things? Do they have different strengths and weaknesses? Can you think of a friend that has been able to teach you something new, because they come from a different place or speak a different language?

Paint a Portrait Activity - This portrait activity provides an excellent basis for young children to draw or paint their own portrait. Encouraging children to look at themselves in a mirror and then paint or draw their picture can be very beneficial in raising children's self-esteem.Follow a week in the life of a zoo vet as he tries to find the right treatment for different animals in The Zoo Vet. It's full of opportunities for discussion and will help children learn about a variety of animals. No two people are raised in exactly the same set of circumstances. So no two people have the same set of beliefs. This RSHP Learning About Disabilities PowerPoint is the perfect Health and Wellbeing resource for First Level learners who are learning about diversity and disabilities. Why is learning about diversity important for children? Some may not want to get married because they’re too passionate about their work and don’t want to expend any time or effort in parenting. All About Me Poster - In this activity children will draw self-portraits and fill in facts about themselves.
