Converted to Test Bench 1.10. With this update we've revamped our Gradient testing, added a new test for Low Quality Content Smoothing, and expanded our Audio Passthrough testing. Tizen is divided into four (technically five) sections: Search, Ambient, Gaming, Media and Menu. Ambient is where you can turn the screen into an art installation with a selection of prints (you’ll also have to contend with the dreaded NFTs). The Gaming Hub features cloud services such as Utomik and Xbox Game Pass, Samsung TVs are the only TVs you’ll find that app on. Media features streaming apps along with curated content from the likes of iPlayer, and Menu is where you’ll find options to tweak picture, sound, etc. Subscriptions required. Some apps may not be available at launch. 3rd party content providers may remove apps from the Smart TV platform or stop updating them at any time.

In 2021 Samsung launched no less than six QN90A models, ranging in size from just 43 inches all the way up to a monster 98 inches, and with 50, 55, 65 and 75 inch models filling in the gaps. The relative prices suggested there may not be too much to choose between these two model ranges, and that’s how it proves. And both have Samsung’s ‘Game Bar’ and ‘Super Ultra-Wide Game View’ features if you want to use them as full-on gaming monitors. Samsung QN90B vs Samsung QN85B: Conclusion

Both the QN90B (pictured here during our early testing with it) and the QN85B feature the deep contrast of mini-LED tech. (Image credit: Future / Al Griffin)That higher refresh rate is still rare on televisions—this TV is one of the first to have it—and it’s nice for both current gaming uses as well as future-proofing. Samsung QN90B Neo QLED TV: Test results and performance

Experience shows, though, that blooming issues with local dimming LCD TVs are typically much more pervasive and consistently distracting than the QE50QN90B’s occasionally obvious dimming activities, so it’s hard to argue with the logic of Samsung’s approach. Even though the brand does also want to have its cake and eat it, to some extent, by making the QE50QN90B exceptionally bright with light HDR images. There are improvements from getting the QN90B, no question. If the extra peak brightness and anti-reflection coating of the QN90B will help visibility over reflections in your living room, it's worth it. The two additional drivers as part of the integrated audio system does make a difference too. And if you need something where the family will sit at sideways angles while watching, the QN90B might be better option. Overall, the Samsung QE55QN90B’s performance is a colourful one that’s well-suited to bright rooms, but that level of brightness can overwhelm. Sound Quality The problem with Samsung Smart TV is its menu structure. It buries most settings, apart from a few very specific presets, two or three layers down from where other TV interfaces put them. It also seems to constantly nudge users away from any granular controls. Switching among inputs is also more complicated than it should be; the remote has a multiple-source split-screen Multi-View button, but no simple input-switcher button. On the gaming front, the QN90B offers an improved version of the Game Bar interface that appeared on the QN90A. This will provide gamers with a fuller combination of information on the game graphics being received, and more options for enhancing the gaming experience. These include new Preset modes specifically designed to enhance FPS, RPG, RTS and Sports game genres, and options for sacrificing a little response time speed in return for improved picture quality with games that aren’t built around response speed. Samsung QN90B vs Samsung QN90A: Conclusion We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for two months in our Accelerated Longevity Test.

Certain features require express consent for the collection and use of personal information. Some features may require additional accessories (sold separately). Data, subscription or other charges may apply. Certain features are available only on free to air channels and/or require a Samsung Apps account. While a certain type of AV fan will always be drawn to the greater light stability and pixel-level light control you get with OLED TVs, the QE50QN90B’s combination of higher HDR-friendly brightness, peerless (by LCD standards) light controls and impressive image flexibility ensures it has more than enough charms of its own to make a convincing case for itself. Especially for people looking for a TV able to take on a bright room environment. With their robust, centrally mounted metal desktop stands, exceptionally slim screen frames, silver metallic outer trims and monolithic design approaches (where the rear sides look as flat as their screen sides) the QN90B and QN90A adopt a pretty similar design approach. Both ship with a cool solar-powered ‘smart’ remote control, too. Never miss another moment. With Multi View, you can play your mobile content alongside the TV program, all at once, on the same screen. Simply cast your phone to your TV with screen mirroring to split the big TV screen*. Handy if you want to keep an eye on the football score whilst watching a movie. Stadia will not longer be provided on Gaming Hub after 18 January, 2023. For more information, visit g.co/stadia/faq When it comes to gaming the QN90B is not as all-consuming as the LG C2’s feature set but you’re still getting a tremendous number of features whether you’re a console or PC gamer. I measured latency at 10.1ms – faster than the LG C2 (13.1ms) – and with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) that can drop down to neglible amounts. What’s more, despite the sophistication of its processing engine and lighting system, the QE50QN90B manages to get the time it takes to render images in its Game mode down to a hugely impressive 9.6ms (with 1080p/60Hz signals). Samsung’s Game Bar does, though, provide the option to sacrifice a bit of screen response speed in return for better, processing-assisted picture quality, along with other game-related adjustments such as the ability to raise the brightness of dark areas without impacting the rest of the picture so that you can more easily see enemies lurking in the dark. Your requirements will have to be fairly specific for the QN90B to make a compelling case over the QN85B if there's a significant price save – unless the smaller screen size availability is a factor (and, let’s face it, the 43-inch QN90B seems to be more like a QN80B based on its specs anyway).
