Kris had been alive long enough to know it was dangerous when men accused you of being better than them. I am one of those readers who does a thorough (and not always fast) read and can usually point out or spot some of the weaknesses in a story. Sometimes I can live with them and I won't mention anything in my review while others I will elaborate on. Her meaningful guitar riffs had a power she worked years to cultivate into that perfection. They were not entirely forgotten, but clearly pushed aside for a mundane job she had no passion for. National treasure Grady Hendrix follows his classic account of a haunted IKEA-like furniture showroom, Horrorstor (2014), with a nostalgia-soaked ghost story, My Best Friend’s Exorcism.”

This quest of self-discovery takes her on a journey across America and finding out why she feels broken and can't create music anymore.

I don’t know that I’d recommend this book to just anyone, just like heavy metal isn’t for just anyone. It’s one of the more unique horror books I’ve read, and I think it requires a unique mindset. Overall, I would recommend it to a busy mom. But only if you’re looking for something really different. Something unique where you don’t mind feeling grunge-y or grimey the whole time you’re reading. I’d especially recommend it for autumn and right around Halloween! Rating Deuteragonist: Melanie Gutierrez, a hard-working Koffin fan from West Virginia, is introduced in an early chapter. Her story only intersects with Kris's much later.

If this book had a feel to it, I would describe it as grunge-y. It feels dirty and grimey, but hopeful at the same time. I don’t know how the author accomplished such a feel in his writing, but he did. And I loved it. I’m no fan of heavy metal music, but I felt that I could be reading this book. Terry Hunt agreed to destroy Troglodyte and keep all of Kris' songs hidden from the public. When Kris is imprisoned in Well in the Woods, she remembers all her music from that album and uses it to fight against the forces of evil: Grady Hendrix is the author of the novels Horrorstör, about a haunted IKEA, and My Best Friend’s Exorcism, which is like Beaches meets The Exorcist, only it’s set in the Eighties. Terrific... Sharply written... [ My Best Friend’s Exorcism] makes a convincing case for [Hendrix’s] powers as a sharp observer of human behavior.”All these computers produce data about what they’re doing and a lot of it is surveillance data. It’s the location of your phone, who you’re talking to and what you’re saying, what you’re searching and writing. It’s your heart rate. Corporations gather, store and analyse this data, often without our knowledge, and typically without our consent. Based on this data, they draw conclusions about us that we might disagree with or object to and that can affect our lives in profound ways. We may not like to admit it, but we are under mass surveillance.

Kris hasn’t even touched her guitar in over 6 years. On a quest to find out what happened, Kris decides to finally visit all members of the band Dürt Würk. She wants to know why she feels despair and dead inside! Loved this book. Loved everything about this book. It's as though Grady Hendrix asked me how I would like my horror served. And he delivered more than he promised. The only 'problem' I could really find with Grady Hendrix's story is that I want the fictional band(s) to exist so bad! WE SOLD OUR SOULS is the story of a band in turmoil, maybe not a great band, but one that affected people. One that got people through the hard times...one that helped them celebrate the good. But when the lead singer decides that this isn't enough for him, he investigates...other avenues. Will the band survive his efforts and appeals to be something greater? Will they survive at all? You'll have to read this to find out!I don't believe in coincidence. The universe always has a plan. It's our job to perceive it . . . " Dürt Würk played hard, heavy and took no prisoners. Now she's cleaning up piss from the floor at Best Western at 3am in the morning.
