You can see my guide on installing a custom firmware here: Installing Custom Firmware (CFW) on the RG353 If you'd like to remove the splash screen all together, just rename the loading.jpg file to something else or simply delete it. So, remember when I said there was a notable exception for Android in my suggestion? This is it. While the Nintendo DS runs fine on Linux, using its own build of the Drastic emulator, it does not feature touchscreen functionality. For some games this may not be a deal-breaker, but for most of the library you’ll find yourself needing the touchscreen at least occasionally. On Android, where I still recommend Drastic, you’ll have the full touch capability accessible to you. While all the games run fine, it may be a challenge to run certain games that lean more into the dual-screen experience of the original hardware. While a game like Castlevania Dawn of Sorrows can easily be played through using a hotkey to switch between screens, you probably wouldn’t get very far in Metroid Prime Hunters. You can set the layout to have the screens side by side or top and bottom, but the resulting screens will be tiny on this device. Playstation Portable Birth By Sleep Death By Insomnia Youll be hooked on this one just make sure to get some shuteye every once in a while Talkin to you Kal When you first boot into Android on the RG353 device, you’ll be presented with a pretty empty screen. The basic things you’ll need to know Anbernic does a decent job at providing a few tools to make the Android side of things more friendly than just a collection of standalone emulators and apps. It comes with a built-in touch controls remapper, allowing you to map buttons on the controller to specific touches on the screen for games without controller support. It also comes with a launcher front end that can be toggled from the notification shade labeled “Game Mode.” This mode attempts to replicate some of the feel of an Emulation Station front end, with the list views and scraped media, condensing the disparate emulators into a single unified experience. It does this job adequately for a new user, playing friendly with the pre-installed emulators, but if you’re more seasoned at Android emulation you may already have a favored frontend that has a more robust feature set. The Android Game Mode front end is a bit more bare bones in customization features compared to other launchers already available but it is a step in the right direction

If you wish, you can place your ps1 games within individual sub folders within the /roms/psx folder. For example, you can put all of your Metal Gear Solid cue/bin or chds within /roms/psx/mgs folder and this tool will still work. With great power comes great responsibility! Be careful as you make changes as now you can easily make various changes that can render the OS unstable or unbootable. Q. I was using Paragon software to add, remove, or modify files on the SD card and now my unit won't boot with the card. What could be wrong? A. The most probable issue is a corrupted ext4 partition on the SD card. There's been a common occurrence of Paragon corrupting the ext4 partition on SD cards. It's best to use a Linux machine (or a Linux VM) to manage files on the ext4 partition of the SD card. You can try to fix the ext4 partition by following the steps in this link, or simply reimage the card. The ArkOS image linked from this wiki provides an exfat partition for the Roms and Bios folder that is easily accessible from Linux, Mac or Windows without any additional software and is easier for managing such files as you don't have to have a Linux machine or VM. The other possible issues are: Be sure to setup your external controller in Emulationstation by hitting start then Configure Input. This will allow your external controller to navigate the Emulationstation menu and Retroarch based emulatorsOn your first boot of the OS make sure to open System Settings (start button) and enable the “Device is RG353V” option. This will fix your missing audio issues. Q. How does the movie/video player work? A. The movie/video player is ffplay. More information about ffplay is available in this link It’s a Gameboy Color! Wait, no it’s not, I don’t remember my childhood GBC having quite this many buttons. Well, at least this time around it’s not so weird when your grandmother calls it your “Nintendo” because it does look a lot like the famed 1998 handheld, especially in this faux-Atomic Purple. However, the device sits nicely in the hands and bears a quality build, although the shoulder buttons do rattle a little. All buttons are easily reachable when using it and I’m quite fond of the matte finish of the body. ArkOS is a great firmware that’s been around for a while so it’s a great OS with lots of development behind it. This OS provides a lot more configuration options for those of you that love to tinker with settings. It comes with all of the emulators you’ll need to play the games you want.

To access BaRT, just hold the B button while booting and in a few seconds, you should be presented with the Boot and Recovery Tools screen similar to this:

Now that your SD card is configured with the file structure you want, you can copy all of your favourite games onto the new card. You can also find instructions for doing this in my Starter’s Guide for the RG353 Configure your emulators To boot into android on the RG353, simply remove the SD card from the TD1 slot then turn on the device. When using an external controller, only Retroarch based emulators will be automatically setup when configured through Emulationstation. External emulators such as standalone mupen64plus, PPSSPP, and SCUMMVM may need additional manual configuration via SSH. With the latest image made available today, If you boot ArkOS on a RG353V/VS unit and it just shows a garbled screen, you can try copying the rk3566-OC.dtb.v2 file over the existing rk3566-OC.dtb file which should work for the new v2 screen units. I’m still looking for a better solution than this. https://www.reddit.com/r/RG353V/comments/10ffs7j/arkos_and_unofficial_not_working/j4wt6bg/?context=3 I’m not going to tell you how to source ROMs here but you can easily google it. ROMs are generally single files which contains a full image of the game you want to play which is readable by the emulator installed. The file extension can vary depending on the game system (e.g. *.nes, *.gba, *.v64). If your file is zipped (*.zip or *.7z) then make sure to unzip it first before placing it in the folder. Using the Android OS

Ex. GBA .srm files and .state files would be saved in /roms/gba. Q. Where do I put PSP DLCs? A. The same way as on a real PSP. /roms/psp/ppsspp/PSP/. A dual-boot system and plenty of built-in tools to make this a very flexible and customizable experience for numerous tastes. Depending on your firmware choice, everything mostly “just works” out of the box. Many CFWs come pre-configured with the best settings for each emulatorTo prepare this card properly to be read by both systems, you need to first boot into the Android system (remove card from TF1 slot) and place your blank SD card into the TF2 slot once the OS is running. This will allow you to format the card as external storage readable by the Android OS. Based on the specs, the RG353V could be seen as essentially a vertically oriented RG353P. However, there are additional differences beyond the form factor. Its look is instantly reminiscent of the GameBoy and the colours of the A/B/X/Y buttons and body further adds a nostalgic appeal (SNES-styled in the case of the reviewed unit). This process will NOT copy any of your roms, games and saves from the main SD card to the secondary card. It will just create the structure for you. You'll need to copy those yourself. You can use File Manager from the Options menu to do this or copy them manually from your computer. Most distributions contain PortMaster which is a fantastic tool that helps to install old (and some new) linux/PC games that are playable on the RG353 When it comes to the performance, the RG353V is very much similar to the RG353P. It’s best running up to Dreamcast and N64 games. For N64, I would get Star Fox running at 60fps and Doom64 at 60fps. Dreamcast games also fare well with Crazy Taxi 2 hitting around 50fps and Soul Calibur reaching 60fps.
