Description

It was extremely hard to put this book down and 10x harder to not think about the story and its characters throughout the day. Today, we celebrate them and the role women leaders play in enriching our communities around the world. I did not know a lot about the Nigerian civil war before reading, and it honestly opened my eyes to the injustice censorship can cause. Chioma experiences the Asaba massacre, an overlooked and traumatic event of the war, and is forced to confront issues of censorship, grief, and trust.

To read more about the book and my motivations for writing it please visit this article published in the Retrospect Journal: https://lnkd.So thrilled to have had my official book launch celebrating the release of my debut novel ‘A Letter Away From Asaba’.

I think that this is the perfect book for educating people on Asaba as well as the other important topics covered in this book such as covering up from the British Government and Onome’s experiences as one of few black students at the university. A second-year History and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh, Claudia is also one of the youngest published authors in Scotland. Claudia Efemini is the author of 'A Letter Away From Asaba' and a current History and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh (2021-2025).If you would like to attend the launch and hear me speak, please reserve your spot using the Eventbrite link: https://lnkd. Fast-forward to today and I am set to publish a book dedicated to the Asaba massacre, seeking to respond to this gap in scholarship and global awareness. This is where Onome’s logical and straightforward thinking fails her, It was extremely upsetting to read this the moment (I am still upset even though she does make amends and admit her lack of compassion for Chioma as a witness to the violence and a close friend). A huge thank you to 10,000 Black Interns for spotlighting this opportunity and your assistance during the recruitment process.

As a second-year History and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh I am currently in the midst of editing my debut novel A Letter Away From Asaba, set to be published in spring 2023. Claudia Efemini is an author and current History and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh. I am happy to share that I have been offered the position as Culture Editor at The McGill Daily, an independent student newspaper at McGill University that has been in operation since 1911. Learning about the Nigerian Civil War and Asaba in particular through these two women was enlightening and truly educational. I came across a book entitled The Asaba Massacre: Trauma, Memory, and the Nigerian Civil War by historians Elizabeth S.This book demonstrates the evils of tribalism, not just friendly rivalry, and how detrimental it has been to the growth of Nigeria. To all the young Black girls wondering if you’ve made the right decision, or pondering on whether you’ll fit in at Edinburgh… I hope you see yourself in this podcast, and above all, I hope it brings you some comfort! The podcast host Claudia Efemini, author, history undergrad and dear friend asked us questions that really challenged Esther and I to reflect on our experiences at The University of Edinburgh. This is far from easy, and they await a series of hurdles in ways they least expect that, in contrast, try to ensure that the victims of the massacre die in vain.
