His boss Murray seems to have it in for McCoy but there was also a real sense of some level of mutual respect and understanding going on. He noted how the "Popular Front" declared its own state of emergency in Baku before the action was taken and how Soviet state organs "ceased to control the situation.

I seem to be saying this a lot just recently, but for fear of repeating myself, I have to say what an excellent debut novel this is!
