Nurgle Daemons are perfect for a new painter – They offer a ton of variety, but they’re very forgiving and take to Contrast paint very well. We’ll talk about a few different ways to paint them, but ultimately the big things you’re going to have to figure out are how you handle grime and snot on your minis. TheChirurgeon’s Method There’s plenty of extra information in the full video to help you paint every single miniature in Leviathan. By applying all of these tips, you should be able to get your whole box completed in no time at all! The lights are coated with Ushabti and then washed Iyanden, on larger things you can use Ushabti, Screaming Skull and White to do a lens effect implying the glass but that tends to be overkill on small models. What other features have I painted? WHO KNOWS! It probably doesn’t matter, and I definitely forgot how I did it. I probably shouldn’t have been drinking while I wrote this! But good life choices don’t lead you to Warhammer, so cheers! Hope you enjoyed, and maybe even learned something! Decorative Metal (Icons, Leaders’ Weapons): – Base with Balthasar Gold. – Wash with Agrax Earthshade. – Drybrush with Hashut Copper. – Lightly Drybrush with Sycorax Bronze, focused on the edges.

Emma: I’ve been painting for many years, and Contrast is one of the most fun and versatile paint ranges I’ve worked with. They are easy and fun to use, making armies faster than ever to paint. I hit the scales and the top of the banner in places with Runefang Steel so that when I paint the scales and fur with Contrast Shyish Purple there is a nice metallic sheen. I also hit the crab claw as well. Emma: This paint has a lovely jade-like tone, which is really intense and vivid. I love using it over Stormhost Silver on gemstones or thinned down for a different take on crystal blades than the usual blue. For the characters, I kept the same elements but reconfigured. The Primus is obviously quite similar to the Cultists, but the Magus trades some of the blue for his rich purple robes. Next I hit the innards and tongues with Bugman’s Glow or Blood Angels Red. I highlight the tongues with Emperor’s Children Pink, edge highlight the skin a bit, dot the eyes with Reaper Pure White, and hit the horns with Rakarth Flesh. The goal is to not spend too much time on these, especially since I need to paint 9 of them. The end result works pretty well, though, giving them a lot of variety to look at and not making them look like uniform blobs. Being lazy about waiting for the chipping medium to dry, since the medium behaves weirdly through the airbrush I find it tends to pool occasionally resulting in areas that take longer to dry. You can exploit this by just not quite letting it dry in those spots as it will give a good impression of a larger patch of paint falling off after a bit of gentle rubbing with a damp brush.

Dark Imperium and Plague War by Guy Haley. These books focus on Guilliman’s battles against the Death Guard and Mortarion’s forces, but also feature several notable daemons, including Ku’Gath Plaguefather. These kinda paints work best fired through an airbrush at around 25 psi with 5-6 thin layers, though for the smaller jewellery handbrushing on the layers will work fine. Over larger surfaces like the Epitome they can wind up looking rather streaky done by hand.Highlight the pink with Citadel Emperor’s Children, highlight the blue with Citadel Baharroth Blue. Iyanden Yellow and Nazdreg Yellow were a dream for painters when they first dropped – easy-to-achieve yellows in one coat! Bad Moon Yellow provides an even brighter choice, especially over a White Scar undercoat. There’s a lot of green in Warhammer, from Salamanders and Nurgle Daemons, to Orks and orruks! Gutrippa Flesh is here to help, slotting in between Militarum Green and Plaguebearer Flesh . Using this knowledge, let’s make an example 1500 point list and look at the decisions made to make this force: Axiom Maniple

Using the general approach of starting with highlights/lowlights, basing Elysian Green, working up to a desaturated cream highlight, adding green saturation via an ink, then painting the details works for any other Nurgle model too, such as Plaguebearers and Nurglings. Try to make your darks super dark and your brights super bright, while choosing colors that create visual interest, and it’s hard to go wrong.

Charlie A’s Method

Emma: For the Tyranids, there are lots of variations of fleshy parts for their symbiotic weapons. The Barbgaunts ’ bio-cannons get a Khorne Red basecoat and a highlight of Tuskgor Fur , and I used Gal Vorbak Red for the mouth and talons of the Psychophage . For the luminous brain matter of the Neurotyrant and Neuroloids, I applied some thinned Frostheart for a creepy blue glow. In our How to Paint Everything series, we take a look at different armies of the Warhammer universe, examine their history and heraldry, and look at several different methods for painting them. With the release of Engine War we’re looking at the forces of the Chaos Daemons, and this instalment is dedicated to Grandfather Nurgle. Who are the Daemons of Nurgle? A good source for inspiration for Genecult colour schemes is to look at their tentacle-mawed gods’s own. After all, it’d make sense they wanna emulate the giant space bugs they’re desperately trying to summon right? The 2019 codex features 2 minor cults that do this with the Sons of Jormungandr and the Behemoid Undercult parroting the schemes for Hive Fleets Jormungandr and Behemoth respectively, with and this formed the basis for my own cult’s scheme based off the cold minty chitin of Hive Fleet Tiamet. Edge Highlight the pink with Citadel Fulgrim Pink, edge highlight the blue with Citadel Blue Horror.
