The Across the Universe we get on LIBN did stand out for me for one reason: it made me realize just how beautiful John’s vocal is. I am talking mostly about the songs where Spector hadn’t futzed around with the arrangements much in the first place – “Two of Us”, “One After 909”, “For You Blue”, three songs I really love that are a lot of fun that have shiny new mixes on this release. And the incompetence of the character he played doomed him to be typecast forevermore playing the kind of inept characters in movies no one really likes that much. The Long and Winding Road' is indubitably improved by the removal of Spector's wall of schmaltz, but it's still teeth-clenchingly mawkish". The film sound rolls recorded at Apple (after their decision to move back to their studio there) disclose how much the atmosphere of the sessions had improved.

We already had a never-Spectorized version on Past Masters 2, we had an exquisite alternate version on Anthology 2, and now this odd mix that is just Lennon and guitar.

And don’t get me wrong, it sounds great, but between the two previous mixes of this take plus the different take on Anthology 3, I mean really, how many versions of “Let it Be” do we really need? The tracklisting on this version of Let It Be differs slightly from the original—there's no "Maggie Mae" or "Dig It", while "Don't Let Me Down" has been added.

Let It Be…Naked is a hopelessly botched attempt, a complete misfire, and an unfortunate blemish on the Beatles’ discography. But the producers made some truly baffling decisions at odds with the intent to present the original album in a purer form. Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description.

Certainly, to my ears, a more pleasing mix: Spector royally screwed up the tracks he had a direct hand in (Let It Be, Long And Winding, I Me Mine, Across The Universe): strings, choirs, etc.

Phil Spector had a tendency to muck up his mixes, “clear” is not a word anyone associated with any Phil Spector mix ever, so some of these songs sounded a lot brighter compared to the versions on the original album.
