Description

The AN/PVS-31A has an articulating housing with independently rotating optical pods. This lets the user deploy both tubes or a single tube. This is especially helpful when users are deploying their PVS-31’s while using a thermal device. The optical pod articulation also lets users stow their goggles without having to flip the goggles up on the helmet mount. This reduces snag hazard and additional height added to the helmet. AN/PVS-31A BNVD and SI/PVS-14 Elbit Thin Filmed White Phosphor are two night vision goggles designed for improved situational awareness and performance during low-light and nighttime maneuvers. One of the most sought after and frequently requested night vision products now on the commercial market-the L3Harris Binocular Night Vision Device (BNVD)!

When it comes to durability, the AN/PVS-31A BNVD is waterproof up to 66 feet for two hours, while the SI/PVS-14 NVG is waterproof up to 33 feet for two hours, making the AN/PVS-31A BNVD more durable than the SI/PVS-14 NVG. Additionally, the AN/PVS-31A BNVD is designed to reduce head-borne weight, improve system center of gravity, and provide additional operational utility.

The AN/PVS-31A BNVD has independently pivoting tube housings that allow the operator to run the goggle in a binocular or monocular configuration. Using two tubes at once allows the eyes to create depth perception and increases the ease in maneuvering terrain and obstacles as well as operating devices such as control panels and door knobs. However, monocular configurations allow for ease in transitioning between various lighting conditions that often occur on the battlefield and cause operators to switch between night vision weapon-mounted white lights. The AN/PVS-31A can be configured to adapt to various situations, giving the user the best of both worlds. Another benefit to the pivoting tube housings is the ability to mount the “flatten” the goggle against the front helmet surface when stowed. Goggles are often worn throughout the duration of a mission, even in daylight hours, because operators may find themselves in a dark environment. NVG's are often left in the stowed position until needed so they can be instantly accessed. But, this causes a snag hazard since the goggles can easily bang into objects while flipped up. The ability to pivot the tube housings against the helmet surface creates an overall lower profile, increasing operator safety and equipment life. Now, let’s compare these two exceptional night vision devices across various parameters to better understand their strengths and weaknesses. 1. Optical Performance Have you found a price cheaper elsewhere, but you'd prefer to buy from us? Don't worry, we have a price match guarantee. The RNVG (Rugged Night Vision Goggle) is renowned for its durability and versatility. It boasts a wide field of view, making it an excellent choice for outdoor activities and tactical missions. Unlike Elbit or L3 tubes, PVS 31 and PVS 15 are from the same brand and same series. But they still differ in many aspects. So, let’s dive more into the details about them. Design: The SI/PVS-14 Elbit Thin Filmed White Phosphor is a Gen 2 Commercial offering that provides a thin filmed white phosphor. It also provides an optional Steele Protective Lens, which offers additional operational utility.

Despite this, the DTNVG also shares the RNVG’s lightweight design and rugged build, making it suitable for outdoor activities and tactical operations.Determining which night vision goggles are the most suitable for individual needs can be a difficult decision depending upon ergonomics, durability, and battery life. The AN/PVS-31A BNVD and the SI/PVS-14 Photonis Echo White Phosphor are two of the most popular night vision goggles on the market. Both offer superior situational awareness and several options for customization, as well as a variety of features to consider when assessing their ergonomics, durability, and battery life. Not only do SuperGain tubes provide improved light amplification and more information to the user, but effects can be felt on the user’s end as well—the overall brighter image allows the pupil to remain smaller, even in low light conditions where image intensifier tubes begin to dim, effectively improving the user’s vision and allowing them to take full advantage of the information provided by the SuperGain tube as well as reduce eye fatigue from long term use. Meanwhile, neither image intensifier life, nor reliability are affected, with SuperGain tubes being every bit as durable and reliable as typical Unfilmed White Phosphor image intensifier tubes. Longer Battery Life: The PVS-31 has power-efficient components, resulting in extended battery life for prolonged operations. You can count on at least 10,000 hours of operation out of the Armasight PVS-31 NVGs, and they are battle-tested by some of the most experienced special operation fighting forces in the world. All PVS-31s come with a Wilcox Industries G24 Breakaway Mount, so you can immediately attach them to a compatible shroud on your tactical helmet. The AN/PVS-31A BNVD is a Gen III dual tube goggle designed to improve system resolution and reduce head-borne weight, with a low-profile ergonomic design and improved white phosphor tube technology. It is waterproof to 66 feet for two hours and offers a single AA battery that can last up to 15 hours, or four AA batteries for a battery life of up to 50 hours.

So, people who’re looking for binoculars with wide range FOV, PVS 15 and PVS 31 is a good choice. Both have a field of view of 40 degrees.

Additionally, the rear eyepieces on the PVS-31 do not have an adjustable diopter. If you have bad eyesight you will need to keep wearing corrective lenses while using PVS-31s or pony up the cash for the fixed diopters from L3. Also by using PVS-14 optics on the BNVD-1431, you can use any compatible accessory like filters or a COTI. There is an adapter for the COTI to attach onto PVS-31 objective lenses but that is extra.
