Description

Our testing was conducted using various beta versions, the "Golden Master" and ultimately the release version of each macOS version. For compatibility information for Focusrite Pro products (e.g. RedNet and Red) on macOS Mojave 10.14 please see this article.

NO - Clarett+ interfaces are class compliant, and are likely to work with Mojave as a basic audio device. However, the earliest version of Focusrite Control to support Clarett+ will not run on Mojave 10.14. NO - We recommend against using Forte with macOS Big Sur 11. Forte Control may work if installed prior to updating but this is unsupported. The Forte Control installer will fail if it is run on macOS Big Sur 11. NO - We recommend against using Forte with macOS Ventura 13. Forte Control may work if installed prior to updating but this is unsupported. The Forte Control installer will fail if it is run on macOS Ventura 13. The combo inputs automatically switch between mic and line sources based on plug type, and the 60dB of gain handles low-level signals well. The input LEDs do the job, although there's no option to switch them to output monitoring. One minor issue: in some circumstances, the monitor mute and level can be a bit slow to respond. Focusrite say it's a software problem that'll be fixed soon in an update. This device desperately needs hardware controls for user settings. With that, all Focusrite would really need to do to provide Linux support is to make the device USB class compliant. Unfortunately, since the driver is proprietary, the Linux driver is a reverse-engineered one that works but still has some issues, the device being as new as it is. The free/open source community will fix the driver issues in time, and the device is already quite usable, but all the troulbe make one beg the question: why make things so difficult, Focusrite?

Ensure Focusrite Control has been installed on the main C: drive of your computer. Installing Focusrite Control to a secondary drive can cause issues. If in doubt, please reinstall Focusrite Control. The service will not quit and will remain in Activity Monitor. Your interface should now appear in Focusrite Control. Includes Ableton Live Lite, three months of Pro Tools Artist, and the Hitmaker Expansion, with plugins from Antares, Softube, Landr, XLN Audio and more. I have never in my life even remotely thought that interface can change my workflow this much. Integrated zero-latency hardware 1 bus mixer is game changer since... it works even if PC is turned off and interface is unplugged. It means that you can actually set this interface up in such way that when PC is off Scarlett 18i20 can behave as pass-through device passing any line-in of your choice (eg. inputs 7-8) directly to your main XLR monitors. It makes it really easy to connect multiple either balanced or unbalanced devices to monitors. Kinda like... monitor controller or actual mixer AND interface in one device. NO - Scarlett Plugin Suite may still work but is unsupported with macOS Ventura 13 on Intel-based systems.

To do this, you need to connect a second coaxial RCA digital cable between the RCA S/PDIF output of the Host unit and the RCA S/PDIF input of the Expansion unit. For compatibility information for Focusrite Pro products (e.g. RedNet and Red) on macOS Sonoma 14 please see this article. For compatibility information for Focusrite Pro products (e.g. RedNet and Red) on macOS Ventura 13 please see this article. How do I connect and sync an external preamp unit with an optical ADAT output to my Focusrite interface via ADAT? Can I also use the analogue outputs on the Expansion interface?

For compatibility information for Focusrite Pro products (e.g. RedNet and Red) on macOS High Sierra 10.13 please see this article. Here is an example of how you might route two analogue inputs of an 8i6 3rd Gen to the S/PDIF outputs: If your interface is showing correctly in the System report but Focusrite Control still displays No Hardware Detected, please complete the following instructions: Two front-mounted mic/line/instrument inputs are joined by six rear-mounted mic/line inputs (all on combo connectors). All eight mic preamps feature individual front panel gain knobs, along with 48V phantom power switched on/off in two banks of four. Inputs 1 and 2 get manual switchover for high impedance instrument input and a 10dB pad switch. For users of macOS 11 Big Sur or later, you can find our support information for Intel and Apple silicon Macs here. NO - We recommend against using Saffire 6 USB 1.1 with macOS Ventura 13. See our statement regarding Saffire 6 USB 1.1 here. YES - Follow the steps at the end of this article if your system crashes when connecting a 2nd Gen Scarlett. Incl. USB cable (type C to A) and Hitmaker Expansion software bundle (Ableton Live Lite, 3 months Splice Sounds membership and Plug-in bundle for songwriting, mixing and mastering)

Eight inputs and ten outputs; eight 3rd Generation mic pres, two Hi-Z instrument inputs, and ten balanced outputs plus ADAT input and output for up to eight more channels each way. Remote Devices shows what devices can control Focusrite Control externally. Focusrite Control can be manipulated via the Focusrite Control iOS app, which can be used to sync any iOS 8.0+ device to the Focusrite Control software and control routing settings remotely. As shown below, there is one iPhone and one iPad synced to the Focusrite Control software: Sync Light - This light should be green indicating the unit is in 'Sync' with itself or external devices, when lit Red the unit will not pass audio. Added the ability to change the colour of the good, pre clipping and clipping stages of the Gain Halos on Scarlett 3rd Generation interfaces. NO - Midnight Plugin Suite may still work but is unsupported with macOS Monterey 12 on Intel-based systems. If you are using a Clarett Thunderbolt interface then please ensure you have allowed the driver to load as per this article .
