There were a few (very small) newly-added bits that I wanted to read more about, but they weren’t the focus and didn’t get the time they deserved. It was just very “guy gets the girl and everything along with it” and it was awkward how it centered the relationship in the final moments. The book is actually a novelization of a screenplay from a live-action movie produced by Disney that came out way back in 1993.And there were definitely some moments that I would’ve wanted illustrations of but didn’t get, yet other illustrations in the book that either felt repetitive or that I wasn’t crazy about.

In general, the book seemed to give Allison a tiny bit more of a part, as a STEM student that Max had admired for awhile before Halloween.When Allison opens the spell book, and looks at the names of the owners, she sees that there is an Elizabeth Sanderson listed after the names Winnifred, Mary and Sarah. They remained true to the movie while also finding ways to expand upon that and provide more detail and storytelling than perhaps we would’ve gotten from the movie alone. I really loved this illustrated take on a classic; it was the perfect shot of nostalgia to prepare for Halloween! The book is a hefty, handsome tome - perfect for your fall coffee table decor, even if you don't choose to read it. Outside of the publishing world, he has contributed his unique vision to film, animation, apparel design, and consumer products. I am just a little disappointed because I was hoping the written version would emphasize more of a dark atmosphere kind of thing, and maybe make some changes or add something to the plot. I recently saw the book in a local Target and decided to give it a go because of my memories watching the movie with my daughter.Reading this novel was like reliving Hocus Pocus all over again, but in book format and with gorgeous illustrations.
