Pretty much the only time I didn't skim a sentence or two is when they had a scene together otherwise ehh. This is a girl who was idolized and used for her body for years, and he's the man that's trying to get her to bolster her self worth. Auren feels sexy, desired, worthy, and truly cherished and respected for the first time, and seeing even more flashbacks from her desolate life as a homeless orphan made me appreciate even more the role Slade took in her life.

Personally, I think she deserved her world to crumble, but I just wish it wasn't by King Midas' hand. Full details of your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations are available in the UK from your local Citizens' Advice Bureau or your Local Authority's Trading Standards Office. The second part of the book gets much darker and things that were put into motion in the first part happen. I'm actually glad Kennedy made this series realistic even at the expense of Auren's inability to renounce Midas right away and even her failure to instantly transform into the strong warrior we're all impatient for her to be.

We're all aware of this already, but it was interesting to see through his eyes, especially as Auren continued to have her eyes opened to what a monster he is, as well as the power she herself wields.

These confrontations produce frank realisations and revelations that have been sitting underneath someones skin, unvoiced and unheard. It's obvious when you read the book how important this series is to her, how much she cares about her characters and that she's doing everything to stay faithful to them. I devoured every word on every page and couldn’t put the books down, I genuinely can’t recommend The Plated Prisoner series enough.

They're both women who have been used by Midas, but they're highly different in the choices they make to break free of him. And while it's nice to see her fight back, she's still under his thumb and frequently gets herself and others seriously hurt by her outbursts. He wants her, but even more than that, he wants her to be able to decide what she wants and be happy with her choices. At the same time, Auren's Midas-colored glasses shatter and we get past her internal love-him-hate-him conflict. This one might be a bit petty, and I might be the only one it bothers, but "baby" in my mind is used primarily by teenagers and manipulative men - NOT by highly intelligent kings who spend their time strategizing war and politics while also supporting women's strength and independence.

He uses such a weak excuse to keep her on a leash- he's holding a random fucking guard hostage and won't let her see him? I gave him my heart, and I was too young, too stupid to see that his adoration was for my gold, not me. Let's ignore for now that she had gotten herself into that situation (again) and would have been much better served asking for help because she was insufferably bad at it. I will probably re-read this series one day as its becoming a favourite but I might re-read this book before Glow comes out, as a refresher.I have fallen in love with Raven Kennedy's writing- I swear some passages feel like poetry and are just beautiful 😍 A joy to read, even when some of the scenes were quite horrifying/traumatizing. Lu walks Auren back to the castle but they bump into Queen Kaila, who has magic that manipulates people’s voices. I'm glad you're choosing you," he says quietly, and my lips part, like I want to swallow the rumble of his cadence.

I don’t even know how I waited these three days to finish the book but I just knew shit was about to go down in the last 20%. The goods do not need to be in their original packaging however in a sellable condition, and at your own cost and risk. while she is also trying to figure out how she feels about him, because it's obvious that she is not indifferent, and she cannot seem to stop thinking about him. Which of course does make the ending finally do something but it's been THREE books and so many pages of this and way too late to actually mean anything. As a character, Auren has grown so much since book 1 and I've loved getting to see that change as it develops and she becomes better and better about well, everything. Even more, "baby" is a modern endearment, and feels like a slip-up in this ancient world with fae and kings. Locking her up in the dungeon, drugging her, or threatening her (with personal harm or harm of someone she loves). I understand toxic and abusive relationships and maybe if this had actually been written with any ounce of effort it could show that but it just shows a weak and powerless man abusing an extremely powerful woman for NO REASON. It was necessary for her character development for her to face her current situation and problems instead of running into Slade's arms expecting him to solve her problems.
