Description

The AE-Drive is a new system that applies Technics' expertise in PWM signal processing. In addition to reducing high harmonics, the new drive suppresses vibrations from the motor for smoother, more accurate rotation, ensuring a rich reproduction of the music. As we found in our review of the SL-1210 MK7, the new model lives up to the legacy of its much-loved predecessors. What more is there to say? It’s the definitive DJ turntable for a reason, and it’s still our favourite all-rounder. It’s not the cheapest model on the market and it’s easily beaten when it comes to features by models like the Reloop RP-8000, but it still sets the benchmark for solid build quality, reliability and feel. More info/Buy Pros Assuredly you read or have heard about the direct drives: Nerveous, jittery playing always hunting for the right speed (so the preconception). High-rigidity body and high-damping silicon insulators for smooth sound and isolation from various vibrations

Released in 2002, [14] 1200MK5G [Not to be confused with MK5 models] The G model was the first Technics turntable to introduce a 'digitally controlled' pitch adjustment. With previous pitch ranges between + and - %8. The m5G added +-%8 Value With the 'addition' of a +-%16 button. Also added was the use of an LED globe on the target light (Previously incandescent) See 1210m5G for more detailed changes. Sadly these are no longer as common as they used to be, and since being discontinued they are not cheap - but buying a good pair represents an investment. My mk3s have doubled in value over the past 5 years! The power and phono cable terminals allow detachment of the cables. The phono terminals are gold-plated to minimise sound quality degradation. Since the terminals allow disconnection of the cables, maintenance of the cables is easier. The Technics SL1200MK2 turntable was sold in Europe under the SL1210MK2 model name. This European model featured a darker grey colour where as the SL1200 sold in American and Japanese markets came finished in silver. If the price of the item drops before it's released, you will pay the lower price, but if it increases, you'll only pay the price you see today.Items can be returned within 7 days as per Distance Selling regulations, return postage is to be covered by customer. SL-1200MK6-K& SL-1200MK6-S (released in February 2008 in Japan) with minor improvements including improved tonearm mounting and oxygen-free copper wire, improved vibration damping in the body, improvements to the pitch control accuracy and better LEDs. -S model has a silver finish like the MK2. In 1970, Technics commercialized the world's first direct-drive turntable, and the system took the world by storm. Unlike belt-drive and other systems, direct-drive systems rotate the motor at low speed and directly drive the platter, thus providing numerous advantages, such as the almost complete absence of degradation in S/N ratio due to motor vibration and deceleration mechanisms, as well as high reliability over a long period time because of not requiring parts replacement. These were limited edition versions, with 24 karat gold plated metal parts including tonearm and buttons. Many "non-official" special models of the SL-1200 and SL-1210 appeared over the years, mainly given away as prizes for turntablism, most notably the DMC World Championship, who awarded the winner a pair of 24K gold plated Technics turntables. Due to the customisation trend that has grown in the DJ community, many local events or competitions gave away custom coloured or finished units. The stylus illuminator features a new push-type structure for intuitive operation, and employs a high-brightness and long-life white LED. The illumination area and intensity were reviewed to provide improved visibility of the stylus tip even in a dark environment.

The drive system designed by Matsushita is direct-drive rather than the more commonly found belt-drive type, a less expensive design. The direct-drive design, which was developed to reduce wow and flutter, produces a very quiet turntable that, for a direct-drive turntable, has minimal motor and bearing noise, (although the bearing rumble does tend to become characteristic in well-used turntables). This was partially achieved through the fact that the SL1210/1200 made the platter a part of the motor mechanism. The platter achieves high rigidity and vibration damping characteristics by using a two-layer construction with deadening rubber applied to the entire rear surface of the aluminium die-cast to eliminate the unnecessary resonance that is otherwise relayed to the record, thereby producing clear sound. Current MK5 models have a removable lid as opposed to the MK2 and MK3 removable hinged lid. Unlike some earlier 1200' models, The 1200MK5 also has a voltage select switch under the platter, Previously only found on '1210' models. The MK5 is the last 1200 model to retain an analog pitch control.Development of a completely rebuilt SL-1200 from the ground up with the intent to create a new system for Hi-Fi use and to redefine the direct-drive turntable reference. And in 2016, Technics developed the twin-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct-drive motor with rotor magnets placed on both sides, thereby eliminating the rotation irregularity of the motor, referred to as "cogging," which was a unique issue for direct-drive systems. This motor was adopted for the SL-1200G, which once again drew a significant response in the hi-fi market. The SL-1200GR inherits the same design philosophy with the new development of a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct-drive motor, resulting in the elimination of cogging.

This is a phenomenon of modern design, which has remained the same since it's inception in the late 70s and has never been bettered for all round performance, quality and reliability.

The PLX-500 is the budget model in Pioneer’s small range, coming in at half the price of the premium model and offering a more basic spec aimed at home DJs rather than professional club use. Switching the 1000’s metal construction for a more basic plastic chassis, the 500 isn’t as rugged and it’s missing some of the features of the top model, like adjustable pitch range. However, it uses the same motor, so it’s fundamentally very close in terms of feel and sound where it matters. It also adds some handy features not found on the top model, such as a USB output. The earlier MK2 models 1978-1983 or so also have a different construction in the rubber base of the turntable. These turntables were made with a base that was completely rubber, whereas the newer version has 2 separate parts: rubber outside and a bakelite inlay that makes it considerably easier to take apart. But the star rating, as is often the case, was only half the story, as our verdict made clear: "The Technics loses out on a strictly sound-per-pound basis, but when it comes to solid build and DJ-dependability it wins the battle." For me personally, i just want the best equipment on the market to play my old vinyls that have been up in the loft for the last 40years and to relive my youth and let the vinyls see daylight now and again.
