About this deal

Horowitz nicely demonstrates the age-gap (or in this case, the age-yawning-void) perpetuated by the central characters’ parents, who impose their values, ideals, and dreams on the next generation without finding out what their children actually want.

Eventually, David and Jill begin to suspect that the students at the school aren’t even using their names, and that their teachers are a monster of some kind, be it a werewolf, a vampire, a mummy and a ghost. You may think this is similar to Harry Potter and in a way it does involve boarding school, wizards, initiation, etc - but it is quite original and it understands witchcraft in the more traditional sense (less fun and more Middle Ages style). Ever since I learned to read my ambition was to be an author, and Groosham Grange is one of those early inspirations. It would be a very appropriate book to aid in creative writing as the story is very imaginative through unusual events and unique characters. At least, that's my version of events and that's what counts here because, very unusually, I actually appear in the book as his not entirely successful sidekick; the Watson to his Holmes. Cuando iba en primaria leí El grial oculto, sin saber que se trataba de una segunda parte y logré disfrutarlo mucho, de hecho, aquel libro significa mucho, fue por él que descubrí el gusto por la lectura.

He also uses a couple characters at random points throughout the book to expound upon the horrors of Christianity--one character is a priest that Horowitz treats with a negative bias that completely breaks the narration. Upon hearing the news, his father reacts rather badly, forcing David to take refuge in his room to avoid the commotion. New pupils are made to sign their names in blood; the French teacher disappears every full moon; the assistant headmaster keeps something very chilling in his room. Some of this dark humour is pretty close to the bone, with depictions of domestic violence and child abuse; it’s a deft hand that can pull this off and Horowitz does this with aplomb (à la Roald Dahl – another childhood favourite), turning it into an almost Grand Guignol over-the-top satire on modern living.

A wickedly funny story by the number one bestselling author Anthony Horowitz, with brand new illustrations by Tony Ross. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The ship's captain, Captain Bloodbath, ferries them to Skrull Island (a parody of Skull Island), which is where Groosham Grange is located. En fin, otro libro que me gustó, pero estoy cien por ciento segura que habría disfrutado más siendo más joven. GG is actually a witchcraft school and David has no choice but to decide between embracing it or paying with his life.

Through several incidents, findings, ease droppings, Jill and David plotted their escape for help as they knew they were in a place where everything was abnormal. However, on all attempts they failed and on their 13th birthdays, they were converted to the magical side at Groosham Grange. Por ejemplo, la idea de una escuela mágica, o bien que aparezcan tres niños como protagonistas (dos niños y una niña).The ending doesn't add up, and we are never given the main character's thought process, so it just leaves you feeling like, "What the heck? Their fears increased rapidly when they met their teachers, none of which seemed ordinary and after different discoveries their alarm escalated that things were not normal in the school.
