Description

By the time Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams started working on Batman at the beginning of the Bronze Age, the comics were already very different from the campy, sci-fi Silver Age.

Their innocence, their sense of playfulness, the utter absence of darkness and grit all made them perfect for a young audience approaching a decade that would bring the entire nation to a new kind of maturity, a recognition that many traditional American values were largely illusionary disguises for greed, xenophobia, and intolerance, a last garden before the storm. He ignored some of the elements of the "Old Look" like Batwoman, Bat-Girl, Ace the Bat-Hound, Bat-Mite and he had Alfred killed off.An exhibition of comic strip art was held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs of the Palais de Louvre in 1967, and books were soon published that contained serious discussions of the art of comics and the nature of the medium. Spanning World War II, when American comics provided cheap and disposable escapist entertainment that could be read and then discarded by the troops, [5] the Golden Age of comic books covered the late 1930s to the late 1940s.

To address public concerns, in 1954 the Comics Code Authority was created to regulate and curb violence in comics, marking the start of a new era. I would prefer the whole range of years that included the silver age- I am open to either online, digital readings as well as physical hardcopy. The "New Look" (starting in 1964) is when Jack Schiff was taken off the Batman titles, with Julius Schwartz taking over DETECTIVE COMICS and BATMAN, while Mort Weisinger took over WORLD'S FINEST COMICS. Individual volumes tend to focus on collecting either the works of prolific comic creators, like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko; major comic book events like " Blackest Night" and " Infinite Crisis"; complete series or runs like Gotham Central and Grayson or chronological reprints of the earliest years of stories featuring the company's most well-known series and characters like Batman and Justice League of America.
