About this deal

It's a great balance of transparency and detail in the treble, with a more forward mid-range for added warmth. The DT 880 PRO is a set of semi-open over-ear headphones, with a matte chrome finish on the back, and a matte black finish on the metal ear forks and band. The important part is having enough sensitivity to play loud enough from portable devices (the 32 Ω version), and to a smaller extent, the potential for minimizing amplifier distortion if you have more than enough output from studio equipment (the 600 Ω version). Just like with all their products, Beyerdynamic are especially proud of the durability of their range. Moving onto the ear pads, I was surprised to find the velour material on the DT 880 is not the same as the 770.

I had wanted to move to something more recommended here but I wanted to stick to my comfort zone to minimize variables. The rear of the pads look identical, but I noticed the velour material goes farther back on the 880 pad before the seam.As the DT 880 Pro's are the only (Semi-)open headphones in my test, it might not have been a very fair comparison. There is a slight emphasis on the mid-bass which contributes to the U frequency, but overall the bass is well presented as long as it is driven properly.

I frequently have long listening sessions and I do get irritated by sibilance on certain bright headphones like the DT 990. MACBOOK AIR WITH ROLAND DUO CAPTURE DUO USB INTERFACE- This works better than the Fiio in terms of bass, overall volume ( officially it drives 47 Ohms) and presentation. Now, I bought all these headphones myself and due to time, money and availability there are some noteworthy omissions in my testing. The improved systems of the legendary DT 880 provide a high quality studio headphone with excellent analytical properties, especially for classical music. Don't sweat it: get the 32 Ω version for an iPod or iPad, the 600 Ω version for use at home or studio, or the usual 250 Ω version if you want it to do everything. If the music is dull and lifeless the headphones sound that way too, but if the music is energetic and powerful and exciting the headphones are as well. Since my Denon AH-D2000 died (broken driver) the DT880 became my new primary cans (tho I still prefer the sound of the Denons. This type of presentation will be useful for mastering or critical listening, and utility for musical pleasure is quite not the same.
