weather resistant. These days I honestly think there are better options than this lens if you want to go wide and stay compact, such as the lens listed below. Alas, the 40mm pancake re-invented for digital, again. Fuji has done a nice job in having a 3rd party build a compact lens and f2.8 is nice. Besides being purpose-built for digital, the good thing about this lens is the same as every other pancake lens ever invented. Its a small lens that is good enough in most other aspects. Its a compromise, that is all. Ryan playing on Dad's 13" MacBook Pro, 10 September 2014. ( Fuji X-T1, Fuji XF 27mm f/2.8, f/2.8 at 1/56 at Auto ISO 6,400, Perfectly Clear V2.) The 27mm focal length works out to around 41mm on a full frame camera, and hits the ‘human eye’ sweet spot of a 55.5° angle of view. I’m often torn between the width of my 23mm f/2 and the tighter composition of my 35mm f2, so the 27mm provides a nice middle ground. Not having an aperture control on the lens takes some time to get use to and I don’t love how the front element telescopes out when focusing close. However, those are forgivable features and would be even more forgivable if the lens was less expensive, which brings my to the only real problem I have with this lens – the price. It’s a little high for a pancake lens especially for on that’s not weather sealed, so you might want to wait for this one to go on sale.

Ignore the crazy rainbow dots at small apertures; these are sensor artifacts caused by taking a picture directly of the sun and exposing for the dark underside of a huge palm tree, and using that same palm tree to hide the sky to accentuate the stars. It works surprisingly well on my Fuji X-T30; all data communication and autofocus work as well as a real Fujinon lens. send when using this lens over the last couple of years. The size makes you look less like a “DSLR tourist” The Fujifilm 27mm lens boasts a metal mount and focusing and aperture rings, high-grade plastic barrel and non-rotating 39mm filter thread.

Ease of Use

If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 3" (7.5cm) wide on your phone, then the complete image printed at this same high magnification would be about 11 × 16" (0.9 × 1.3 feet or 25 × 40 cm). The Focus Breathing is definitely present but it’s not a huge problem. I would say it feels like you move out maybe 3mm from infinity focus to the minimum focus range. While this lens has no Optical Image Stabilization, some cameras like the X-S10 have built-in sensor-shift Image Stabilization (IS, VR (Vibration Reduction) or Steady Shot), which works really well with this lens. If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 3" (7.5cm) wide on your phone, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 11 × 16" (0.9 × 1.3 feet or 25 × 40 cm).

Fuji specifies only to 2.5 feet (0.6 meters) in normal mode, but my X-T1 focuses as close in both modes.

No, because personally, I am already covered with two very fine lenses in this focal length range, the XF 23mm f/1.4 R and XF 35mm f/1.4 R. If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 6" (15cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 21 × 31" (1.7 × 2.6 feet or 50 × 80 cm). Ignore the the vertical smear at large apertures, this is is a sensor artifact called interline transfer smear and not a lens defect. There is no aperture ring. You have to use a dial on the camera to set it, or to set it to Auto aperture control for A and P modes There is a tiny bit of spherochromatism, which can cause color fringes on things that aren't in perfect focus. Spherochromatism is a completely different aberration in a different dimension than lateral color fringes.
