The school's leadership reward her with an academic fellowship to the Vatican; however, while in a cab, Ann finds that the driver is the old man who had harassed her under demonic influence. The cab stops in the street, and a sinister-looking woman, who was the one released from the institute, stares at her from the street. Ann arms herself with a crucifix as the driver snarls and lunges at her. You might still wonder, “But what about 1 Timothy 5:21, which says , ‘In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these rules without favor, doing nothing from partiality’?” Just as “elect” and “predestination” do not prevent the nature of free will for man, it does not for the angels and demons either. The decision of the demons—and therefore Satan—is final. The nature and character of Christ’s work It is the irrevocable character of their choice, and not a defect in the infinite divine mercy, that makes the angels’ sin unforgivable. “There is no repentance for the angels after their fall, just as there is no repentance for men after death” ( CCC 393).

The Hebrew word “keep” means to “watch, guard, defend.” This is a prayer for protection. Father, my children are not perfect. They are going to make mistakes. But please watch over them and guard them again mistakes of youth that are unalterable. Please defend them against temptation. Protect them against Satan who desires to devour them. Lord, I pray that my kids (grandkids) will develop an eternal perspective and purpose, not an earthly one. Help them to see life–and every challenge–through Your eyes, eager and unafraid to share with others the good news of Jesus wherever they go. I pray that they will set their minds on things above, not just what’s going on here, and that they will be rooted and grounded in Your love. I pray they will come to understand the extent of Your own love for them–that it surpasses all the head knowledge they will acquire in school. A Prayer for Unwavering Faith in God’s Victory When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). The first time Satan appears in the Bible in Genesis 3, the first words on his lips are suspicious of the truth (“Did God say, You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?”). And the second words on his lips were a subtle falsehood (“You will not die”). John says that Satan “has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him” (John 8:44). We are dealing with the essence of falsehood and deception. 2. He blinds the minds of unbelievers. Grant me the courage to face every challenge, the wisdom to discern every scheme, and the faith to proclaim my victory through Christ. A Prayer for Breaking Strongholds On 8 September 1858, Mary convinced him she would never abandon her faith; in response he cut her throat and dumped her in an alley. Of this we may be certain: at no time are we to pray for, or on behalf of, Satan. Scripture repeatedly assures us that his eternal destiny in the lake of fire is sealed and irreversible. Neither Satan nor his demons are capable of repentance. Salvation has not been provided for them. Indeed, “it is not angels that he [Christ] helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham” (Hebrews 2:16). The cross is the instrument of Satan’s defeat, not his redemption (Hebrews 2:14–15; Colossians 2:13–15). The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God’s reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries—of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature—to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but “we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him” ( 395). Since Our Lady is our Mother and Advocate, She always assists those who call on Her implicitly by praying the Rosary. The Church reminds us of this in the Memorare prayer, "... never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided ..." The question is not whether you want to be in this war. Everyone is in it. Either we are defeated by the devil and thus following, like cattle to the slaughter, “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), or we are resisting — “resist him, firm in your faith!” (1 Peter 5:9).In 2 Thessalonians 2:9, the last days are described like this: “The coming of the lawless one by the activity of Satan will be with all power, and with signs and wonders of the lie.” That’s my awkward translation. Some translate it “with false signs and wonders.” But this makes the signs and wonders look unreal. In fact, some people do say that Satan can only fake miracles. I doubt it. And even if it’s true, his fake is going to be good enough to look real to almost everybody. Majestic King, as I stand before Your throne, I am reminded of the authority I possess as a child of the Most High God. I recognize the significance of praying with confident authority in Christ. In the name of Jesus, I assert Your supremacy over every force of darkness that seeks to oppose me. Empower me to stand unshaken, knowing that through Christ, I can command the forces of evil to flee. Let Your Spirit embolden me, O Lord, to exercise the authority granted to me through my identity in Christ. As I face every challenge, may I do so with the unwavering assurance that I stand as a co-heir with Christ, vested with His authority. In the name of Jesus, who conquered every power, I pray for the confidence to wield His authority in the battles I face. Amen. 17. A Prayer for Divine Intervention in Spiritual Warfare

As I journey through the landscape of life, may Your light guide me through the treacherous snares that the enemy lays in my path. Awaken within me the ability to distinguish truth from falsehood, authenticity from deceit, and light from darkness. a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin whom we ask every day to pray for us at the hour of our death. Dear Lord, in a world filled with noise and distractions, I come before You with a heart that seeks refuge in the sanctuary of prayer. Recognizing that my mind is susceptible to the whispers of the enemy, I humbly ask for Your divine protection. Guard my thoughts, O God, from the insidious influences that seek to lead me astray. Surround me with a shield of Your truth, that the lies of the enemy may find no dwelling place within me. There is, admittedly, a lot we don’t know or understand about prayer. How it is incorporated into the way a sovereign God providentially governs the universe remains largely a mystery. Why some prayers are answered swiftly, and others slowly, and some not at all, often baffles us. But this doesn’t mean we are left in the dark when it comes to prayer.

I teach a junior high class in our church, and the other day my students asked me a question I couldn't answer. They said that since Christians are supposed to pray for their enemies, doesn't this mean we ought to pray for Satan, so he'll change his evil ways? I'd be curious what you would have said.
