Description

He hopes by sharing this story that readers will be encouraged to accept and love their true selves, and help break down some gender stereotypes along the way. No matter how hard he tries, the shadow continues to be pink, and he knows he is not like the rest of the boys, especially not like his dad.

I do feel, however, that the dual themes could be a little confusing as the main character has such a fully pink shadow. It flows SO incredibly well and tells such a powerful story about being different and that it's okay to be different.

Having worked at The Royal Children's Hospital, Scott has seen how important it is for children to feel represented and is committed to creating stories of empowerment. Our youngest son also loves the story, and it's brilliant giving him exposure at an age where he doesn't understand the depth of meaning, so that he can hopefully grow up without the societal gender constructs/mindset/opinions of previous generations. My Shadow is Pink is a cute story about a little boy who finds that his shadow is not blue like other boys, but rather pink. he soon learns (through the support of his dad) that everyone has a shadow that they sometimes feel they need to hide. The dad proceeds to talk about gender and the breaking of gender roles because everyone is different; it doesn't matter if they are a boy or a girl, they can do anything.

This is a delightful story to read to my son and the rhymes are beautiful how it tells your child they can be whatever they want to be as they grow and learn that our shadows show who we truly are and I like to say my son’s shadow is a rainbow as he is a ray of sunshine that loves everything and I, his mum I have a purple shadow. However, the boy has an irrepressible pink shadow, and loves ponies and books and pink toys, princesses, fairies, and things 'not for boys'.This book that teaches children how to be themselves, no matter what that ‘self’ may be, uses shadows to explain the concept.

He regularly appear on podcasts and in media, speaking about parenting, discovering your authentic self and learning to accept yourself and your children. This book is a lovely nod to those who feel they don’t match the expectations of others and are on a journey to accept themselves. The boy’s pink shadow, though, is his very being, and he must learn to love it and live with it and go back to school proud of his different-ness. With the love and acceptance of his father, he learns that everyone at times, has a shadow they wish was different .

For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms - but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation.
