Krystyna Mihulka tells the story of her childhood in this moving memoir. Krysia was nine when the Germans invaded Poland in 1939. Hitler had made a pact with Stalin and the two powers divided up Poland between themselves. Krysia and her family lived on the Russian side. Krystyna, now in her 80s, tells the story of her family's deportation by the Soviets to Kazakhstan and their struggles to be reunited with their relatives.

Women's International Exhibition catalogue (1976). "Hilda and Rusty BERNSTEIN Papers" (PDF). WITS University Historical Papers. p.13 . Retrieved 24 April 2021. I amn so sorry to hear of Krysia's untimely death. I remember her with great affection as an integral member of Al Stewart's band for many years, and have a treasured copy of the Shot in the Dark album, where her voice really shone through. Within just days, the peaceful childhood she had known would disappear forever. Joseph Barker (cello) studied with Chris Pascoe before moving to Manchester to study with Gil Thoday at Chetham's School of Music. He is in his third year studying with Louise Hopkins at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In the 1980's Krysia toured with the pioneering chamber group Domus, a piano quartet with its own portable concert hall - a geodesic dome - winning two Gramophone awards and a worldwide audience. In 1995 she founded the Dante Quartet, which became recognised as one of Britain's finest ensembles, winning the Royal Philharmonic Society award for chamber music and playing throughout the UK, Europe and Japan. The Dante Quartet was very popular in the South West and was central to the formation of the Dante Summer Festival. Everyone says a quartet is like a four-way marriage, so you do have to be aware of the difficulties of bringing another relationship into that.” The lyric of the famous B-side “Bet She’s Not Your Girlfriend”, released in 1991, was actually written thinking of her.

What does this have to do with a 9 year old girl living in Lwów, a small city in eastern Poland? Everything. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, as it came to be called, sealed the fate of this young girl and her family once the war began. After the initial invasion and occupation of Poland by the Germans on September 1, 1939, the Soviet army invaded and occupied eastern Poland as per the Pact on September 17, 1939. I remember when we went to see the band at the local Kessington Hall along with the Glasgow band Beggar's Opera. Krysia sang her heart out that day and won all our hearts. The New Forest is blessed with many talented local beekeepers and we look forward to learning far more about our own hives.Krysia Osostowicz(violin) is the founder of the Dante Summer Festival. She has enjoyed a long career in solo and ensemble playing, and as a teacher of violin and chamber music. Born in London of Polish descent,Krysia studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School, King's College Cambridgeand then in Salzburg with the great Hungarian violinist Sandor Vegh. She has collaborated with artists such as Steven Isserlis, Radu Lupu, Thomas Ades, Ralph Kirschbaum and Ferenc Rados. I remember her playing with Tom Hoy and Robin Thyne as the Natural Acustic Band. They nade two albums for RCA in 1972, and Krysia made a solo album, again for RCA, called Krysia in 1974. I saw them at some of the Folk Clubs around Glasgow in the early 70s. I remember Krysia playing one gig with her leg in plaster from toe to thigh. a b c Bush, Aubrey (1 November 1974). "Margaret C Topham and Krysia D Nowak". Arts Review. 26 (22): 657.
