The ASICS Noosa Tri 15 is one of ASICS’ well-known models. It’s named after the beach in Australia that triathletes use for training and racing. It has always been known as a triathlon racing shoe and will always offer those easy-to-slip-on features like the heel or tongue pull tab. The updated midsole impressed our testers, and they praised it for its balance of protection and responsiveness, along with its highly versatile usability. Our team enjoyed shorter daily efforts as well as longer runs, and they even liked the Noosa Tri in the gym. Its ability to handle various paces was impressive, as the Noosa Tri felt smooth at slower paces and snappy at faster ones, giving our testers everything they needed for a variety of training runs. You’ll love how lightweight they feel coming in at 6.9oz for women and 7.9 oz for men. And having a 5mm heel drop makes this neutral running shoe a very stable one. As an ASICS Frontrunner from the UK team, ASICS kindly gifted me a pair of the new GEL-NOOSA Tri 15 to try and test out so here is my personal review. New Balance Fresh Foam X Tempo v2 - A freshly updated model that provides a low profile, versatile training option Ryan: The Asics Noosa Tri 13 was one of my favorite stable/neutral trainers from last year so I was excited to try out this year's model. The 14 retains many of the features I enjoyed in the 13 but the Flytefoam EVA midsole feels slightly softer underfoot. Despite saying this, the midsole is still quite firm, helping to create a smooth toe off thanks to its pretty significant toe spring. Be aware, this will hold your toes in a small amount of extension making the shoe feel slightly shorter. The heel bevel creates a soft landing leading to a smooth transition to the forefoot and the upper does a good job securing the foot and providing a snug fit. Ryan: The one aspect that could be improved in the Asics Noosa Tri 14 is the outsole traction. This is especially apparent under the toes where I frequently felt my foot slipping. While with road running this is less of an issue, I wouldn’t choose to take the Noosa 14 trail running anytime soon. Guidesole technology will be enhanced to create a more curved sole that reduces ankle flexion and that, in turn, increases running efficiency. Performance: A- ( Really lively and nimble ride from heel to toe. The shoe is incredibly light and still responsive for the category. Traction could be better.) My second critique cuts deeper, as style in running is on an equal playing field for me with substance. Why I fell in love with this line in the first place was its unapologetic silliness and a crazy shoe that seemed to stand alone in Asics’ offering. In this go-around, I didn’t receive pink bungee laces along with the standard ones (maybe I’ll get some aftermarket), and the Noosa Tri logo has been moved to a small space on the heel while the traditional ASICS logo now dominates the side and forefoot of the shoe. This shoe is designed with speed and comfort in mind – we’ve spent hours testing it at our Institute of Sports Science (ISS) in Japan. ALEX: I wanted to love the Noosa Tri 15 and make it a primary non-plated trainer in my repertoire, but I’m sad to report my infatuation has waned, and I think my critique falls in two major camps; performance and aesthetics. Let’s talk performance first. I logged close to 50 miles in the shoe of varying distances and paced runs. While with the 14, I felt confident in what I could handle (almost anything) and had a similar bouncy experience, my time with the Noosa Tri 15 varied wildly.
