Description

Jesus Revolution (12A) depicts the true story from the 1970s, when young Greg Laurie ( Joel Courtney) meets up with Lonnie Frisbee ( Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie-street-preacher and Pastor Chuck Smith ( Kelsey Grammer), to open the doors of Smith's languishing church to an unexpected revival.

This film tells the story of revival in California in the 1970s and the key message is that church is for everyone. Frisbee was a man who opened people’s eyes to the radical grace of God while living a secret life and having furtive relationships with men. Instead, the most complexity we get is that he could maybe be a bit arrogant and oblivious, occasionally elevating himself rather than Jesus. The Church is engaged and interested in good faith content and there is a demand for it in mainstream cinema.

It is fascinating as a text, but also richly sinister as it attempts to seduce the viewer with a narrative about redemption and love. A regular columnist, she stepped up to the role of Digital Editor with Sorted Magazine in September 2022.Instead, we get a very sexless, happy clappy account of how evangelicalism collided with the hippy movement in Orange County via the encounter between Frisbee, an older Christian pastor named Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer), and Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney), a young congregant who years later would become a major player in the sect and a supporter of Donald Trump. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective.

July's Premier Christianity magazine contained a 2-page review in which Jesus Revolution is described as "a film that earns the accolade of being one of the best Christian films I've seen.

Unlike many other Christian movies that fail to release in British cinemas, Jesus Revolution is showing across 157 cinemas in the UK and Ireland. The film is at its strongest when Grammer and Roumie are on the screen together, which happens far more in its first hour. Sinister … Kimberly Williams-Paisley as Charlene and Jackson Robert Scott as young Greg Laurie in Jesus Revolution. Val has authored/contributed to eight non-fiction books, a ninth will be published by Valley Press in 2023. KOVA and CPO are so excited to be partnering on the box office smash hit, Jesus Revolution (in UK and Irish cinemas 23rd June).

That last one is a curious choice given it’s supposedly about a brothel of ill-repute, and this is a film about Christians, made by Christians and clearly for Christians. Get your Churches involved, spread the word, book out cinema showings, give tickets away, not only does this film have the potential to change lives but with enough support it will open the door for other Christian films to be released here in the UK. Together with Chuck Smith, they open the doors of Smith’s church to an unexpected revival of radical and new-found love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a Jesus Revolution. If you prefer us not to set these cookies, please visit our Cookie Settings page or continue browsing our site to accept them.
