At the same time, Hutton is absolutely real too. He could be the annoying billionaire, full of himself and grumpy AF, but he’s not. He’s still a kid at heart, one who is in love with his best friend, but doesn’t see it. He’s someone with social anxiety, who thinks he’s not enough. All I wanted to do was tell him he is more than enough, and honestly? That he’s so freaking amazing.

I love this entire game 👀 so many revelations, and the tension was 🤌🏻 This was disappointing… /: There was no angst, no built up of sexual tension, no flow of the story. It was just eh. She tells people she’s engaged to Hutton. And then she calls him to save her. And he’s there, like he always said he would be. gianni & ellie are childhood frenemies turned enemies then coworkers at a vineyard. when ellie is about to take a road trip in an oncoming blizzard, gianni offers to drive her so she gets there safely. after the opportunity turns sour, their situation gets worse when they have to pull off the road and get a motel room for the night where 😉 there’s only one bed. despite ellie’s hatred of gianni, she can’t deny he’s hot asf so they agree to a little blizzard fun except they come home with a more ~permanent~ souvenir. super fun tropes but doesn’t rely too heavily on them— fake-dating, childhood best friends to lovers, forced proximity, mutual pining... “practice” kissing. it was adorable.My new neighbor is a firefighter - and a scorching-hot single dad - but I swear I didn’t set off that smoke alarm on purpose. there were just sooooo many sweet moments here, eurgh. i can’t name them all. it just ties into the way they loved, respected and cared for one another. they were each other’s greatest advocates and supporters, so you could really feel just how much they meant to one another. the soulmatism was strong in this one. their parents. I loooove how Gianni’s dad talks to him. I haven’t read all the parent books, but I want to now ❤️ Melanie’s favorite part about writing is the actual wording sentence level stuff. She loves to put thoughts and feelings into the words that make a reader look over her shoulders because Melanie got into their head. She also loves to write dialogue. Her least favorite part of it all is plotting, as she is horrible at it. When she attempts to outline, she will just sit and stare at her screen.

FTL has been my least favorite trope in all of romance since I began reading in the 7th grade haha. I don't necessarily despise every FTL book I've ever read, but I haven't really loved any of them either. UNTIL NOW. We practice kissing. Undressing each other. Saying things–and doing things–we’d never dare if we weren’t pretending. Because it’s all for show, right? We’re just role-playing. Hutton doesn’t want a real relationship, and I don’t want to get hurt. But the more time we spend faking it, the more I start to wonder.

Childhood best friends meets small-town romance, and the result absolutely kills me. This is the perfect storm for me. I needed this story this weekend, and I don’t think I even know why. So much Winnie... I liked her a lot and it is clear she's the author's fave, but where were my Ellie & Gianni crumbs ( Taste)?! I can’t put into words how much I hated this book, it’s like Melanie wanted to write a childish book but at the same time wanted to put some kink in it. You know when you’re seventeen and you fantasize about living in a Kate Hudson’ romance movie? This book is about a 28 year old girl fantasizing about how fun would it be to fake date a hot billionaire. It was surreal to me. Honorable mention to what is one of my favorite lines from the whole book. This was actually said by a random side character at a gas station

the lie he tells 😬. Look. It’s almost required in a forced proximity book 💁🏻‍♀️. How else would they spend more time together 😈? Let me say this, I LOVED HUTTON. I loved his sweet but sexy vibe. I love that all he wanted to do was make Felicity happy. And I LOVED when he needed control (HELLO SPICY SCENE). He was a pleasant surprise. The nice guy that can be dirty when he needs to be. Nothing happened, of course - because I, Winnie MacAllister, romance junkie and owner of a constantly broken heart, have sworn off men for one solid year. Even protective men with chiseled jaws, bulging biceps, and deep brown eyes that make my breath come faster. Even former SEALs with broad chests and strong hands that make my skin sizzle. Even gorgeous, grumpy guys who have their hands full raising two adorable little girls and claim they don’t believe in love. They’ve always loved each other, but that’s because they were friends. Because friendship is love, right? Except… when you can’t avoid thinking about what it would be like to kiss your best friend.Hutton also had a side that I appreciated and understood, and they’re sort of unexpectedly steamy together—and I love me a heroine who knows what she wants!
