Later, when trying to think of a plan to get into Lord Business' Octan Tower, Emmet tells the gang they will fly there in a spaceship, which excites Benny. You get to build 3 small spaceships in addition to Benny's really big spaceship, which is clever and cool and very fun.

The gaps between the body and the wing flanges are a little unsightly - exposing the Technic bricks as they do - and not altogether necessary, since the flanges do not need to lift beyond horizontal and indeed will flap around if the ship is inverted.

And if I'm being picky; considering how many Classic Space design references they packed into this model, it's a shame there aren't proper bumblebee stripes. The scratched up logo on his chest is in worse shape than anything from my childhood collection, and I’m not sure I can see myself using it in a creation. It lifts in a manner reminiscent of the rear radar of the great 6980 Galaxy Commander 4, except this one rotates too. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. They have a good velocity and travel a decent distance, although I wouldn't say they're going leave a mark on a person, if you're hit by one some feet away, I'm sure they should knock Lego guys over.

This also allows Robo Emmet to keep his Piece of Resistance on, and Space Wyldstyle's hoodie doesn't get in the way. It would have been a cool little set to make it on its own, as the whole Emmet + Lucy thing was kind of important to the film. Along the way, he encounters a variety of colorful characters, but perhaps none is more lovable than Benny, an early-'80s Lego spaceman who just wants to play with classic space bricks. And you know, as well as anyone else who's been around as long as we have, that LUGNET was developed well before these cute 'out of the box' blogging/newsgroup software. Even so, I’m generally happier with clear-backed stickers than I am with printed parts these days, so I’ll take it.There were a few points where the whole length of the ship is held by a few studs, and it will likely break apart if you lift it up (you know, like the instructions tell you to do). Some mention that they're easy to follow, while others say that they are very complicated and take a lot of time to put together. Although instructions are easy to understand, this set might take younger enthusiasts a while to build. I would like to have seen landing gear, or other ground-based activity, which was one of the charms of the old range; this is very much a model for swooshing.

Now some bitty sections are added: some as sub-builds, others built directly onto the emerging ship. The first few pages of the instructions are for the detachable little ships on the wing, and at the end, an exciting “X2”. I’ll admit that I’m guilty of this, especially when MOCs or contest entries come up that aren’t built with the kind of skill or polish that adults put into things (and kids rarely do). It’s a bit disjointed as a lineup, since when we see the spaceship in the movie, Emmet has been tossed into the void and there were pilots shown for a few seconds before it became all about robot skeletons for some reason. If it weren't for the upcoming LEGO Ideas Exo-Suit, I'd say that my most anticipated set of 2014 was 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!

The spaceship features an opening cockpit and central roof through which you can access computers and tools. Agreed on the 'wedge', and the overall design lines from every direction are superb - which I hope my clinical shots convey. In short, a beautiful ship that works wonderfully as a Lego Movie piece, fits in perfectly with a Classic Space collection, or just for parts for you to build your own grand Classic Space adventure. While Wyldstyle, Batman, Benny, Unikitty and Metalbeard were still flying in the spaceship, some Micro Managers attacked and grabbed them and threw them all off the spaceship dropping onto the ground below, which is mirrored from the real world when the Mad Upstairs took the gang off the spaceship and dropped them onto the table.
