Description

Conserve the environment. The world’s problems are complex, and pollution can arise from wasted resources throughout your product’s lifecycle. The big-picture view means creating more devices we can recycle more easily and with less resources invested. Also consider the users’ immediate environment: e.g., does your design pollute it visually and sonically? Design is, in essence, a way of thinking that can be applied to solving any problem: design processes can be found in fields as diverse as architecture, fashion, urban planning, branding, and even life itself. It can focus on private or public, work or play, analog or digital. Good design is innovative. Good design must be useful. Good design is aesthetic design. Good design makes a product understandable. Good design is honest. Good design is unobtrusive. Good design is long-lasting. Good design is consistent in every detail. Good design is environmentally friendly. And, last but not least, good design is as little design as possible. References and Where to Learn More

"Making a 360-degree film in the way that we felt was important is not cheap. From day one we were obsessed that the film should look so real that it almost felt like archive footage. So attention to detail was everything. Which meant we would need authentic wardrobe, sets and hundreds of extras!" The team also self-funded thousands of cardboard VR viewers to supply to care homes. Finding spaces where change is needed is the first step for anyone interested in designing for good. Our hope is that we all move further towards considering the human impact of our work, especially upon the marginalized and under-served.

Things that are developed using a design for good ethos, too, have people at the center-not a business, government department, or other abstract entity. Graphic designer Aaron Draplin follows a personal practice called “ Free Fridays”, where he offers his skills for free each week to a cause that needs help.Far from being “just” an aesthetic discipline, design is an approach to problem-solving itself.
