Description
Some of you wonder what I mean by "base". I don't think that term gets used much nowadays like it was in the 70s. Audiophiles would use the word "plinth" to describe the thing the turntable mechanics sit on. However, when I hear "plinth", I think of something heavy and sturdy, like what you'd put a Thorens on. (That weight serves a purpose to stabilize the platform on which you want only the vibrations from the record itself and nothing else to reach the stylus, said record being spun at a precise speed, perfectly true, resting on a heavy and dense platter, also designed to squash any noise not coming from the record.) Well, fortunately I have a junker of one of those multi-function boxes, and it gladly gave up its 45 adapter: Whether you’re savouring the warm sound of vinyl or streaming digital music via the built-in Bluetooth receiver, the included stereo speakers offer 30 watts of crisp, loud sound. A light, hollow, plastic base acts like a speaker and echo chamber for rumble, and cheap tables want to rumble. Turntable motors are like... umm... rectums: They all have one, but nobody wants to hear it! This Crosley has a full size metal table and it is easy to change the belt. It comes with an OK felt (like) mat. It still rumbles though!
Hi, everyone! It's me again, the guy who has written up TWO topics on improving
There are a lot of handsome looking cheap tables out there. (Don't listen to my ex when she says I'm a handsome looking cheapie. I'm really not that handsome!)However, if you’re a hardcore audiophile, this brand might not satisfy your needs. Neither the audio nor the build-quality will impress someone who is planning to listen to vinyl records on a daily basis. Here is what you need to know about the pros and cons of this brand before buying a Crosley vinyl record player. The Good How about a pair of "monstrous" (for this Crosley) Realistic MC-800 speakers with a massive 7 inch woofer, and again, a real tweeter! And crossovers inside! Old meets new with these amazing little walnut vinyl veneer speakers in high density particle board! Really, they sound quite good for what they are, and improve the sound of this table immensely! I think I paid 10 bux for these, too. What can I say? I like small speakers to hook up to various things I'm noodling around with. For what they are, they do get respect from the web for inexpensive speakers, and of course you can hot rod them if you want. AUDIOPHILE ADVISORY: This thread discusses cheap, plastic record playing devices, which some readers may find offensive, and refers to the Crosley brand a lot, which many readers of this forum find objectionable.
