Description

The secret? This is a one-layer tent, so no separated flysheets and inner mesh. I can hear some of you shouting “condensation!” but hear me out. With UV protection of 50+ and 4000mm of water resistance, this tent will keep you safe and comfortable in hot summers and stormy autumns alike. Design, Material, & Performance Camping Hygiene & Comfort Whether you are out on a day hike or looking to go out into the wild for a few days, it’s important to keep yourself and your kit clean. Those home comforts that you can take with you can really help. Wood to Water have compiled some of our favourite camping clean and comfort items to keep you smiling when you are out in the wild. Read More >> As always, dual side entrances are simply the best design from a comfort and convenience point of view, creating easy access to gear and freedom to move in and out of the tent without bothering your tent mate. Internal storage is provided by two small pouches at either end, strategically placed in the centre to keep them out of the way of hiker’s heads and feet. There is also a removable mesh “attic”.

The ventilation is also a big plus. Many budget tents have only a single vent, which means they overheat in the summer months, and users have problems with condensation. Also, in case you’re thinking “… what’s all this 20D, 15D, 210T nonsense?” … well that relates to the fabric used to make the tent. We won’t go into this here – all you need to know for now is that the 20D and 15D are nylon tents and the 210T is a polyester tent. You’ll see how nylon or polyester affects the tent spec below in terms of weight, waterproofness (is that a word?), etc. At 2.6 kg, this tent is a little heavy for hiking. It’ll be fine for weekend trips but it’s not the best choice for long-distance thru-hiking. It would certainly be a fantastic choice for bike touring, though it’d be a good idea to share the tent weight with the person you’ll be sleeping next to. It has some really cool features to optimize comfort. For example, small magnets are sewn into the door fabric to make coming and going as easy as possible. You can also set up a little sheltered foyer with your trekking poles by slotting them into the notches in the tent door.Naturehike’s dimensions suggest the Star River 2 is slightly longer than the other two tents, but we are not convinced. Naturehike give 215cm length for both inner and outer. However, the inner length is obviously less than the outer length on a double skin tent. We’d say the inner is about 210cm in reality, which is the same as the Cloud Up 2 and the Mongar 2. The flawless waterproof rating of the rainfly is just icing on the cake. 4000 mm HH is really high for a three season tent. If you choose the Naturehike Mongar 2 you can rest assured even heavy rains will not cause a problem! How fast can you set it up? The “doors” have a wide, tapered design which makes for fairly easy access. They can be secured out of the way by means of a toggle. Here’s another couple of tents that look really similar, to the point where you could play ‘spot the difference’ – certainly from a distance anyway. The MSR Hubba Hubba NX is two to three times the price of the Naturehike Mongar … is it worth it? Our aim today is to do a Naturehike Mongar 2 vs MSR Hubba Hubba spec comparison to help you decide for yourself, and weigh up whether either of these tents are for you and if so, which one to go for. Let’s dive straight into the specs of both tents.

Cool Bags Our range of the best cool boxes and cool bags are heavy-duty boxes that are capable of keeping your food fresh for days! Our camping cool boxes and bags come in various sizes to accommodate any of your camping needs. Whether for camping trips, days out, or even keeping food stored at home – we have the perfect solution for you! Read More Another quite useful feature is the overhead gear loft, where you can store a torch or a battery-powered fan. However, if you consider that this tent is affordable and comes with its groundsheet and stakes, its weight is pretty reasonable. The seams are not sealed, which can increase the risk of leaking in extended lousy weather. This is a shame in a tent of this price but due to the exceptional design, I’d still recommend it for cyclists. The tents that Naturehike produces are near copies of higher-end brands; however, Naturehike uses cheaper materials and a faster manufacturing process to cut down on costs.Sleeping Accessories All those things you all ways need when camping in the wild spares and extra things to make your stay a little easier The 4-season version, similarly to the Cloud-Up, just adds a snow skirt to the flysheet, a small modification that makes a lot of difference, adding insulation and allowing the warm air to stay inside. You don’t have to worry about the Mongar 2 leaking, as it has been treated with a silicone coating that resists 4000mm of water. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, 4000mm is a decent waterproof rating that will keep you dry in nasty rainfall. Now, this is where things can get a little confusing. Naturehike have different specs for different colours, so bear with us – we will do our best to clarify what’s what (based on the information we can find). Walking Gaiters Walking gaiters offer a range of benefits that can help improve your walking experience. They are designed to keep your trousers clean and prevent rain and moisture from creeping up your leg. Read more

Water Bottles and Flasks Some would say that Water is the most important thing when it comes to being out in the wild for any period of time. There are many methods of collecting, purifying and carrying water in the field and its important that you choose the right gear for the type of outing that you are doing – Depending on load-carrying if you are on foot or in a vehicle and many other factors. Here at Wood to Water, we have a wide range of purifying, collecting and carrying water. All the equipment we have chosen is tried and tested by our team.version: Pink / Army Green and just to add to the confusion, the pink and army green versions have different specs from each other too. It isn't just lightweight, it's versatile; free-standing or fully guyed-out; it can be pitched inner only, flysheet only, inner first or, at push, fly first; it's lightweight enough to serve as a spacious one-person hiking tent, and spacious enough to use comfortably as a two-person tent. On top of all that, an additional vestibule is available to expand the tent further, giving additional shelter or gear storage. The Mongar 2 is noticeably more comfortable than many other Naturehike models, with loads of space to spread out. MATERIAL - Rainfly:20D rip-stop nylon, silicone coated (4000mm waterproof index),Floor:20D rip-stop,silicone coated(4000mm waterproof index),Poles:7001 aluminum. The Star River sits somewhere in between the two. So, if it’s inner space you want, then the Mongar is probably the one for you.

That said, you need to respray your tent regularly to keep the waterproofing in top shape, so don’t expect it to take care of you if you don’t take good care of it!

To the best of my knowledge, Naturehike is born out of a Chinese company producing tents for MSR, that’s why some tents are very similar to those by the American brand ( Chinese law obliges foreign manufacturers to share the intellectual property of the design). This is a freestanding tent, able to resist strong winds thanks to a stable design, the ventilation is good with two air vents on the flysheet to prevent condensation. I love that this tent has two doors because it really does transform your camping experience if you are sharing your tent. It also has sealed seams to protect you from the rain; these seams aren’t always present in Naturehike tents.
