This book does exactly what it aimed to do: we really get a clear and vivid idea of how they were hard-working and how intricate and complex their music was from the lyrics, instrumentation, melodies, etc. Watching the Carpenters on a Bob Hope television special that autumn, she remarked that she had put on some extra weight. Every sha-la-la-la, every wo-o-wo-o still shines,” the Carpenter’s sang in “Yesterday Once More,” their hit 1973 tribute to the songs of the past. It would be nice to see other authors take this approach as well and instead of trying to tell a 'story' like most books (Carpenters : The Untold Story included) the author focuses on the information foremost instead of trying to tell a story. Nothing major missing, however, it was just that at the time there was so much speculation on Karen's death and not too much concrete information (even 10 years later).

Karen had never had attention from Agnes before – her mother doted exclusively on Richard – so she liked it. He credits a less famous name with a well-known sound, choral arranger Judd Conlon, whose work appeared in Disney’s “Peter Pan” and “Alice in Wonderland. Also, I don't know what the other reader means when he says that it was The Carpenters fault because their career stalled. On Thursday 27 January Florine Elie drove to Century City for her weekly cleaning of Karen's apartment at Century Towers. Very eye opening as they go from a live concert to a studio to record to doing a TV special many times.

This book was just so wonderful, a true gift for Carpenters fans but would also be a fine present for casual Carpenters fans too. It aims to correct the legacy of the group, which is often overshadowed by Karen Carpenter’s death from anorexia in 1983. Critics from the era and hard rock fans dismissed them, labelling them with phrases such as "Squeaky Clean," "Too Good To Be True," "All American," and many, many others.

They made inventive, exciting, and emotional albums that still sound fresh and new, and Karen was a drummer, and I'm glad that this book also displayed that side of her too, and how proud she was of her instrument. You can feel the love in every page, in how everyone involved in this wanted to give Carpenters the respect that they deserve. At their house in Newport Beach Karen expressed to Burris her desire to get pregnant and start a family. Days before the wedding rehearsal Burris dropped a bombshell: he had undergone a vasectomy prior to their meeting. She weighed 110lb [7st 12lb] or so, and looked amazing… If she'd been able to stop there then life would have been beautiful. We definitely liked and disliked the same things — a real friend where you could talk about anything you wish and you don’t feel uncomfortable,” he says. In Carpenters: The Musical Legacy, Richard Carpenter tells their story with candor, heart and humor, chronicling the ups and downs of the duo, whose work remains the gold standard for melodic pop. Years of jam-packed work schedules, including hundreds of concert engagements, proved to be just too much for the Carpenters to keep the hits coming—and, ultimately, to keep the music playing at all. I felt it would have been better if it would have been "heart stopped" or "cardiac arrest" or such instead of "heart attack".

The expensive cars and other possessions gave him the appearance of a multimillionaire, but what others did not realise was that he was living well beyond his means. I think it helps to have heard of The Carpenters to get the most from this gig, but you don’t have to be a super fan. But if Karen's story achieves anything, I hope it is this - that it may save the lives of other anorexia sufferers. I am 20 years old and LOVE the Carpenters' music; I own every one of their CDs, including Karen's solo CD.

This loss of control was known to often spark fear in patients, and doctors who oppose hyperalimentation argue that it does not teach the patient to eat properly. Karen, after fighting bravely for a year in therapy, went home and apparently decided that she wouldn't lose any weight with ipecac, but that she'd make sure she didn't gain any. The definitive biography of one of the most enduring and endeared recording artists in history—the Carpenters—is told for the first time from the perspective of Richard Carpenter, through more than 100 hours of exclusive interviews and some 200 photographs from Richard's personal archive, many never published.

Between 1970 and 1984 brother and sister Richard and Karen Carpenter had 17 top 20 hits, including " Goodbye to Love ", " Yesterday Once More ", " Close to You " and " Rainy Days and Mondays ". Like their music, it’s a book for marveling at, photo after photo after photo, everything from the most casual backstage or studio setting to album cover out-takes, foreign 45 sleeves, TV appearances, the lot. Finally, their talents are being acknowledged - Richard is praised for being the great musician that he is, a superior producer and arranger with an unparalleled ear for quality and timelessness. As a huge fan I thought I knew everything about the duo but we get some real insights from the authors to do with their career. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. Now, for the very first time in over 30 years, the voice that melted a thousand romantic hearts lives again through Toni Lee, in this remarkable live show. It gives an accounting of nearly every rainy day and Monday they spent in a hectic 1970, the year “(They Long to Be) Close to You” became their breakthrough hit. From their humble childhood days in New Haven, CT, to their move to California and the fame that would ultimately take them the world stage, this is by far the definitive Carpenters biography (and sadly the only one) that has ever been written.
