Over the last decade, propelled by the expansion of the craft distilling industry, gin has had a veritable explosion of expressions. At last count there were more than 6,000 different expressions of gin and the number continues to increase each year. Gorgeously light and fragrant on the nose with a juicy burst of fresh citrus on the palate. The beautifully blended botanicals open up like a summer flower to reveal glorious complexity and a delightfully long dry finish. A superb gin. Not surprisingly, almost half of the Gold Outstanding medalist were from the UK. Stylistically, these gins ran the gamut from historic, to traditional, to fruit based and contemporary styled gins. BELFAST design and spirit company Drinksology Kirker Greer has announced a new partnership with celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo.

You have to be brave to oak-age gin, but this tiny distillery on the island of Hven between Sweden and Denmark has pulled it off well. A light and wheaty gin, with a touch of sweet spice, the oak acts almost as a binding agent on which the other elements sit shyly. It’s textural rather than aromatic, but very smooth with a dry finish. Good Martini gin. Alc 40% If the Comte de Grasse is out of your price range, you can still capture the feel of southern France in this well-priced Provence gin. As pale pink as the region’s famed rosé, there’s a dry ‘countryside in the heat’ feel to it, with flavours of peppercorns and thyme. It’s great with tonic, where there’s enough punch that the spirit is distinctly gin, but also a gentle sweetly aromatic finish. Summery. Alc 40% The Ginato Gin range comprises four bottlings: the classic Pinot Grigio Gin, made with a blend of grape and grain spirit, and combined with Sicilian lemons; Ginato Clementino, crafted with clementine oranges; Ginato Pompelmo, made with pink grapefruit; and Melograno gin, made with pomegranate.

More Alternatives…

Vanilla, white fruits, earthy, apple blossoms and notes of apple aromas on the nose combining with concord grape, chamomile and juniper flavours on the palate. Alcohol and sugar well-integrated with the flavours displaying a woody undertone and lingering fruity finish. Maybe it’s the greyhound on the label, but there’s a definite sleekness to Windspiel – perhaps down to the fact that its base spirit is made with potatoes. It’s super elegant: lots of juniper, citrus, candied lemon peel and a gentle hint of lavender on the finish, no sharp edges. The charm is its smooth, rich texture, made for an indulgent Martinez or (better) a quality Martini. Alc 47% Gin from Europe?’ you might be thinking. ‘Is nothing sacred?’ After all, gin is as proudly British as fish and chips, Tesco and Fray Bentons meat pies. This is correct – but only in so far as none of the above are strictly British inventions, either. The first chippie was set up by a Jewish immigrant, the first Tesco was established by the son of Polish arrivals, and Fray Bentos was first manufactured in Uruguay. Crafted using the true essence of Italy - Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Barbera. These grape varieties can all be found in Italy’s finest growing regions that circumnavigate the idyllic lakes of the north.

We are seeing exceptional growth and success with Ginato in the Australian market and we look forward to continuing to build on that success with our partners.” Two expressions in the range , Ginato Clementino and Ginato Pompelmo, will be available to buy in the Australian off-trade.

COCKTAIL GINATO

Hand sourced from the rolling hills of Tuscany and the green heart of Umbria. The crops grow at high elevations where there are few trees and many wildflowers. The Italian berries are a smaller, higher grade, more complex and fruity in flavour. Southern Italy is blessed with a Mediterranean climate. Sunny hot days and cold nights, coupled with unique terroir, gives the citrus fruits a typical sweetness and taste that is very difficult to find anywhere else in the world. We can't wait to share his great enthusiasm for Ginato Gin and his love of everything Italian with consumers across the UK in the coming months and years ahead.'' This year’s IWSC Gold Outstanding medalists represent a broad array of styles from historic to contemporary, utilizing both traditional and local botanicals as well as unusual ones. Plenty to explore here. Your gin and tonics may never be the same.

John Soden, CCO of Ginato owner Kirker Greer Spirits, said: “We have been blown away by the success of Ginato Italian Gin in every market it has entered so far, and our goal is to continue to build on that success as we introduce the product across Australia. The Australian drinks industry is extremely dynamic and we feel that Ginato will be a great addition to the Dan Murphy’s and BWS premium spirits portfolio.” Most Spanish and Italian gins go down the citrus route, but not Gin Mare. This is savoury rather than sweet – think olives and garrigue, particularly rosemary and thyme – with a touch of sea-breeze saltiness and a twist of lemon. It’s sweeter and softer on the palate than you’d expect, so although it works fine in a G&T, it’s at its best in a Martini, where it can show off its subtlety and silkiness. Alc 42.7% By expertly blending the finest Italian juniper berries, botanicals and grape, we have created a collection of wonderful gins that are both extremely unique and exude the true essence of Italy. Hos Ginbutikken anvender vi PostNord til alle vores pakker, det betyder at du i 99% af alle tilfælde har dine pakker allerede dagen efter, ihvertfald på bestillinger lagt inden 14:00.Classic Old Tom Gin from The House of Botanicals is a historic style of gin reminiscent of 18th century gins. These gins had sugar added to them to make them smoother and to mask undesirable flavors in the gin. The judging panel described the gin as:

We use the grape in the base alcohol, combining a considered blend of grape and grain spirit. The grape spirit fundamentally provides a unique texture to the gin, and when we redistill our base spirit to make gin, we also add Pinot Grigio grape as one of the botanicals to bring about the underlying aroma and flavor of this most popular of wines. Combine this with Sardinian citrus and we land on a particularly clean, crisp, citrus-forward gin with hints of apple and pear from our grape choice. The TV personality is the new face of Ginato Italian Gin, which has recently launched in 22 countries. The Clementino expression adds clementine oranges to the blend, resulting in a ‘vibrant orange’ colour. Meanwhile, the Pompelmo expression is made from Sicilian pink grapefruit peel, giving the liquid a rose-pink tint. Lovely light lemon notes; slightly floral with coriander, herbs and pepper aromas shining through on the nose. Well-balanced palate with cardamom, a soft butteryness and pepper combining with the citrus notes, creating a well-integrated and well-made interesting gin.

Mr D'Acampo said: “My homeland has always shaped not only the way I cook but also what I eat and drink. Italians have a passion for great quality produce, and this is everything that Ginato Gin embodies. Italian gin brand Ginato has unveiled its global Christmas campaign, which will be rolled out through social media and online advertising. Each gin in the range sits at 43% ABV Ryan: We have used Nebbiolo, Barbera and Sangiovese grapes in our other flavor variants but our experience has been that the consumer instantly recognizes and connects with Pinot Grigio in a way they don’t with the other lesser known varieties. Pinot Grigio grape will now feature across the full Ginato Gin range including the pink grapefruit, clementine orange and pomegranate flavor variants. Floral notes with a real depth of citrus fruit. Clean, akin to hanging laundry, with supreme balance and integration. The palate has lots of peppercorn complexity and a touch of woody oiliness. All-encompassing.
