The all-around reflectors and number plate holder have been introduced to satisfy new laws in Germany. Recently, e-scooters are officially able to use the roads, and both of these features are required. We would always recommend wearing a helmet when riding an electric scooter. Most scooter injuries seem to happen when a pothole (or similar) is encountered and the smallish wheels are indeed susceptible to such obstacles. Please read my post Are Electric Scooters Safe? for more information and statistics on the safety of electric scooters. As we often point out, as of May 2022, it is not legal to ride privately owned electric scooters on public roads in Britain, although few police forces take any action against riders. There’re enough changes to call it an update, but some fans wanting more may be disappointed. If you’ve already got a world-beating e-scooter and need to satisfy new European legislation, Xiaomi has decided not to reinvent the wheel. How do you decide between the Xiaomi 1S and the Xiaomi Pro 2? This brief guide will give you the details to help you choose between the two new Xiaomi scooters, focusing on the few differences between the Xiaomi Pro 2 and Xiaomi 1S.

The Xiaomi 1S is a foldable electric scooter designed by Chinese tech giant Xiaomi (pronounced "show-er-me"). It is manufactured by Ninebot, who also manufacture their own e-scooter (the Segway branded ES2). Like the M365, it has a simple folding design, 30 km (18 mile) range, 25 km/h (16 mph) top-speed, low weight and pneumatic tyres. It also boasts cruise control, front and rear lights, E-ABS brakes and a dedicated phone app (the Mi Home app seen below). The frame is also basically the same as the M365. A comfortable grip made from rubber and plastic ensures your hands are safe on the handlebars on both sides. Multi-functional dashboard When the Chinese electronics company announced the Xiaomi 1S earlier this year, many were curious as to what changes the new version would bring. Thankfully, the new e-scooter retains most of the features of the popular M365, with just a few much-needed tweaks to bring it up to speed with today’s competition. The frame does not have suspension, but the pneumatic tyres provide light cushioning for uneven road surfaces. A fake scooter may work reasonably well but it is unlikely to have been built to the same standards as a real Xiaomi. Added to this, Li-ion batteries can be dangerous and you would not want to be riding or charging a scooter with a possibly unsafe battery component. Xiaomi, on the other hand, is a reputable company that has recalled scooters when a safety issue has been discovered.

The Xiaomi Mi1S features three-speed driving modes – Pedestrian, Drive (standard) and Sports – and boasts a sophisticated cruise control system. If you switch on the scooter for the first time, you will hear it beep and see lights flashing on the display. By connecting to the scooter via the Mi Home app , you can register and activate the 1S. Here, you will also be shown an instructional video on how to use the vehicle safely. After completing these steps, you are ready to hit the road. The Xiaomi Pro 2 is slightly bigger than the Xiaomi 1S; being a few centimetres longer and taller (when unfolded). Otherwise, the physical differences are negligable and purely aesthetic: as with the original Xiaomi Pro e-scooter, the Pro 2 has a red rim around the front wheel, while the reflectors are red on the on the Xiaomi 1S and yellow on the Xiaomi Pro 2 . The Xiaomi Mi 1S sits right in the middle of the current range, costing less than the slightly larger and more powerful Pro 2 but only costing only slightly more than the basic and much slower Xiaomi Essential model. To turn on the display, press the power button once. You’ll see your speedometer, riding mode and battery percentage indicated by five bars across the bottom. Press the power button again to toggle the 2W LED headlight on or off and double-press the power button to toggle between the three riding modes.

The Xiaomi Mi 1S range is up to 30km (18.6 miles). However, the actual distance varies and depends on several factors, including the load weight, scooter speed, road conditions, wind speed, and temperature. Battery If there is one thing we have learned about e-scooters over the years, it is that the range in the booklet regularly differs from the actual range. That leaves the question: how does the Xiaomi 1S perform against other Xiaomi models when it comes to range? Here are the differences: Model The Xiaomi Mi 1S has a series of updates compared to the M365, including an additional riding mode, an improved multi-functional LED display, enhanced safety features, a better rear mudguard (fender), and some cosmetic changes. In Sport mode, we reached maximum speed after 6 seconds during our test. Keep in mind that using the scooter in Sport mode drains the battery substantially faster than driving in Drive mode.
