These tests are critical for ensuring that emergency lighting systems are functioning correctly and are ready to activate in the event of an emergency.

As we are passionate about only providing our customers with the finest fiew alarms on the market, you can trust that you will be purchasing the best and most reliable systems. Due to the efficiency and dependability of our outstanding equipment, it has been incorporated in a range of high profile locations - so you can rest assured that our alarms won't let you down. However, we live in a listed property where all works like these must be approved by the local council. To simplify the system (and therefore our application to the council) I have opted for the use of self test lighting hardware. Without providing all of the detail, this system would allow us to use existing power supplies without having to install a new circuit (which would require more intrusive works to be undertaken on the building). We can provide emergency lighting testing and servicing to ensure you are fire safety compliant. We can test your emergency lighting system at a time that suits you. The results of all testing and any necessary corrective action can be recorded in your fire safety logbook. This record is then available for inspection if required.Emergency lighting is designed to activate automatically in the event of a power outage or emergency, making it an effective safety feature for building occupants. Are emergency lights a legal requirement?

BS5266-1 states that emergency lighting should be regularly tested. How often should emergency lighting be tested? Once the emergency lighting is activated, building occupants and maintenance personnel can visually inspect the lighting fixtures to ensure that they are working properly. Notify building occupants: Before conducting any testing, make sure to inform building occupants about the upcoming test. This will help prevent any confusion or panic during the test. You need emergency lighting in areas that could be considered “dangerous” such as commercial kitchens or plant rooms. If your building has rooms larger than 60 square metres, then emergency lighting is recommended. How long do emergency lights need to stay on?Take action: If any issues are found during the test, take action to correct them as soon as possible. This may involve replacing bulbs or repairing damaged fixtures. Each emergency lighting system should have suitable -means for simulating failure of the normal supply for test purposes (i.e. without interruption of the normal supply)

When zero voltage is detected at L PERM it is the indication to the emergency module in the light fitting that mains power has been lost and that battery power must now be switched on. Test switches allow engineers or maintenance personnel to simulate power failures or other emergencies to test the emergency lighting system's effectiveness. Sometimes there isn’t a test key switch. If not then you have to find the consumer unit and turn off the power to the whole circuit that controls the emergency lights. Hopefully it will be marked which one it is, but it could be more than one circuit. These control panels are typically installed in areas such as stairwells, emergency exits, and other high-risk areas. The BS states that each emergency lighting system should have a suitable means for simulating failure of the normal supply for test purposes and that is all. Without emergency lighting, occupants may be at risk of injury or harm, particularly in situations where visibility is limited due to smoke, fire, or other hazards.
