About this deal

Forces of the independent Zulu kingdom inflicted a crushing defeat on British imperial forces at Isandlwana in January 1879. The end, even though I knew what was coming from other sources I had read, was still very sad and moving to read because, during this lengthy book, I had grown to admire this man and even to like him, at least in certain of his moods. Reuben, who has Down's syndrome, was trapped in a care home during the pandemic, spiralling deeper into a non-verbal depression. To me this was a great read about history of Southern Africa and written in a narrative format, not just a list of dry facts and figures.

I am deeply aware of human's capability to inflict pain on each other, but this was one step beyond for me I'm afraid. Behalwe in die geval van versamelbare of ander meer waardevolle boeke (waar werklike foto’s van die boek gebruik word om sy toestand aan te dui), word ‘n publikasiefoto van die omslag van die korrekte uitgawe van die boek vertoon. Built in Philadelphia, one of the leading cities for penal reform, Eastern ultimately defied national norms and was the subject of intense international criticism. Historians often compare Shaka to European nation-builders including Napoleon, Bismark, and Garibaldi. In this story, Shaka Zulu, a great warrior and powerful king, finds that despite his many talents, he is the only king in the nearby kingdoms who cannot dance.

The classic of African History -- a biography of Shaka Zulu, founder of the Zulu nation, born leader and brilliant general.

This definitive account of the rise of the Zulu nation under the great ruler Shaka and its fall under Cetshwayo has been acclaimed for its scholarship, its monumental range, and its spellbinding readability. The Zulu Army was not, however, a professional force, unlike its British counterpart, but was the mobilized manpower of the Zulu state. Dr Wylie said this had set the tone for future distortions, such as the 1980s television series Shaka Zulu, starring Henry Cele. In Shaka Zulu, I found a character who wasn't reacting, on the whole, to external actions, but forging a Black empire, a Zulu empire, as the result of internal forces and experiences. Omer-Cooper took as his subject those Black Africans, most especially those occupying what we know as South Africa. But most of all, it tells the incredible story of an outcast who built an empire only to be assassinated by his own brother! The inspiration for the upcoming original series on Prime Video, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. It is unlike those works vilifying Shaka as a monstrous tyrant directly and indirectly responsible for a trail of death across almost a third of Africa.

A lot of the information provided to the author was handed down via oral history with a lot of it verified by documented history in the later years of Shaka's life. He hadn’t established an independent life in the care system and was still struggling to accept that he had Down syndrome.Being unable to match the dancing talents of those around him and with the Zulu disco around the corner, he feels the pressure to find a beat that could work with his two left feet! He wrote this book at almost the same time as Ritter’s biography of Shaka but his focus was subtly different.
