About this deal

Director Park Hoon-jung, with his 2023 offering The Childe, tells the story of a low level boxer named Marco (Kang Tae-Ju) who competes in underground fight circles in The Philippines, using the money that he earns from these bouts to. It’s still not nearly as amazing as the theater of course, since it’s far more primitive technology. between reality and fantasy, yielding incredible stop-motion animation and an even better high definition 3D presentation. highly textured world coming through as intended, surveying fibrous hair and strings, smooth skin surfaces, and animal fur.

presentation is an example of perfection: the mesmerizing visuals have never looked this good on home media. Our own Ian McShane, Jennifer Saunders, and Dawn French make up the rest of the eclectic tenants and their respective other selves, whose warnings go unheeded but whose help remains invaluable. There are no problems with aliasing, banding, or heavy noise, leaving this new 4K transfer the best this film has ever looked. I saw the movie three times in theaters because I figured this would be the last time the movie would ever be watchable in 3D ever again. is visible during the viewing experience, but the grand technical achievements of the endeavor aren't threatened.

It’s still copy-protected though, which is lame, but at least it’s not illegal to transfer the video and watch it on other devices. Up next are a series of featurettes starting with the thirty-six minute Making Of Coraline, which follows the making of the film from Selick’s pre-production ideas through to the actors finalizing their voice work. The visuals will get most of the attention here, and that’s understandable as the film is a striking one to look at, but the story is heartfelt and enjoyable enough on its own merits that it shouldn’t go unnoticed, particularly by those with an affinity for the darker side of what many consider to be children’s stories.Sourced from a new 4K restoration, Shout’s UHD of Coraline renders the hand-crafted details of the puppets and décor in tactile detail. Textures are so crisp that you can make out the fuzz at the end of individual strings of yarn used for Coraline’s hair and the cross-stitching on pieces of furniture. The supernatural element is, however, far darker than one first imagines, with a rather nasty subtext, even if the warning message is clear, and, as a parent, hits home on many levels. After more success with James and the Giant Peach and a few other films, Selick and Neil Gaiman teamed up for Coraline, based on Gaiman's book of the same name. The frontal array plays host to the dialogue which is very natural sounding, each flex and nuance of the respective characters voices coming across without restraint and given directionality when needed.
