About this deal

In this cupboard are the forgotten, often expensive, relics of the many impulsive financial decisions that Rox has made.

Nawet gdy sama autorka nie doświadcza konkretnych sytuacji, mogło by tu zostać opisane dla bardziej szerokiej perspektywy. And to paraphrase the great Kathy Burke, this is not so I can be considered ‘woke’ but so I can be considered less of an ‘ignorant f*cking tw*t’! Despite my personal squick, I'd definitely recommend this for partnered folks with new ADHD diagnoses. I did cry for at least 8/10 of the chapters- it is so hard for me to explain that shame you are so good at explaining.Given the majority of the books advice is 'be heavily reliant on someone neurotypical for everything' its not really a surprise. Whatever the symptoms you’re dealing with, Rox and Rich’s anecdotes and advice will take the shame out of ADHD and make life more manageable for ADHDers and the ones who love them.

I really liked the fact that you get the perspective of the person with adhd and also the person who lives with them. It could have been a decent read if the authors had chosen to tell it as their narrative instead of some form of truth. Some of his comments about how without her diagnosis, they wouldn’t still be together, or how without the early relationship honeymoon phase, they wouldn’t have made it…made me wary. If you (or anyone you know) may have ADHD, you may be fooled into thinking the 'symptoms' set out by the pair are textbook when they are decidedly not. There's overlap but some of them may not fully be just PTSD like I thought and explains why they're not getting better. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about themselves or those they love with ADHD. I hope it all works out for her -- but, in my experience, I suspect she's got a lot more work ahead of her. Being someone who’s struggled with many of the same issues throughout my life, I only wish that this book had been published sooner! These are funny, true, and sometimes unexpectedly touching, and the book brings all of this to the table.

Initially this was over the use of the word ‘normal’ – and now I’m all for a coffee with dairy milk after your vaginal birth. So many parts of this book hit home on both Rox’s side of living with it, and Rich’s side of loving someone with it. There is ONE chapter in the book where Rich says being with Rox taught him to sometimes enjoy spending money and indulge in little things. I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this from ‘A’ through the post as she thought I might find it helpful.

I was thrilled that they narrated themselves for the audiobook, since that’s now the only way I can read, due to my ADHD. I relate to what’s being presented, I laughed, I reflected, I’ve talked non stop to everyone I know about this book. I now try not to get frustrated and remember that we see things differently, and that assistance and gentle reminders really go a long way!

Luckily the lady’s patience and good nature extended to another flight the next day, which Rox managed to make. There are some helpful grains of salt here and there, but this isn’t a book I’d recommend to most of the people I know with ADHD. This is not the clinical answer to what is ADHD and how to deal written by people who have studied the brain and human psychology for 50 years but never actually experienced ADHD hands on. I have a great partner too and we are working on how we deal with some things together- we might use some of your tips. However, an issue I have is that she got sober towards the end of 2018, got diagnosed with ADHD soon after, and then had over a year of celibacy to work on her love addiction / relationship issues. It is your comments and support that made us realise how alone so many of us can feel, and how important it is to share the real struggles of ADHD.
