About this deal

I'm starting a loose theme month of UK originated comicbooks, with a look at what is probably Alan Moore's most popular work for venerable UK sci-fi comic 2000AD. However, Alan Davis drew it so, and I will say this about every Alan Davis book I ever review, it looks really good. and Quinch are irredeemable, so Moore sets the starting bar to immoderate, and escalates from there, sequencing the set-ups and punchlines into complete plots. I know, that's going to send some into an absolute tailspin of mouth-frothing rage, but I've now read enough Moore to say that with some confidence. Love Makes You Evil: Chrysoprasia's reaction upon finding out what the real Waldo Dobbs is actually like, and thus inspiring her transformation into Crazy Chryssie.

R and Quinch stip in it, but if you're not a completist, the "Totally Awesome Guide To Life" can be picked up for mere pennies and has the added bonus of being the same page size as the originals, avoiding the sometimes cramped appearance the more modern reprints of UK comicbook material can have. So much of Alan Moore’s reputation rests on “serious” works that it's easy to forget that he's equally at home with humor. The story sees Ernest and Waldo set themselves up as a charity devoted to “Dangerous Maniac Ex-Servicemen In Need Of Love And Understanding”, which just happens to be based right next door to the judge who’s about to sentence them.

The delinquents stumbled through one drama after another, often oblivious to the mayhem surrounding them, even though it was all their own making! Some of the early stories are throwaway British comics stuff, but the last story, an extended riff on Hollywood success is more developed and properly funny. Moore was an absolute master of the short story form and ended up with three series in 2000AD as a result. Kind of like the reverse of Malcolm McDowell’s Alex in A Clockwork Orange crossedwith Sandy from Grease.

And, like, under no circumstances whatsoever was I held upside-down over a pterano-gator-infested water-hole until I agreed to sign it. It may now be one of you more obscure works, but it's held up over the years and still feels funny and fresh to my jaded eyes. I was disappointed, too), but if you need silly slapstick violence utilizing thermonuclear devices and oranges, you shall not be disappointed. Really, I wouldn't even recommend this for hardcore Moore fans, unless you want to knock him down a peg or two in your own estimation. It's a fun story with plenty of one-off gags, and the final plot twist isn't bad for a short piece of this type.and Quinch continued to appear in 2000 AD from progs 525 to 534 in the form of an advice column with readers sending in letters with personal problems solved by D.
