I really liked it was really good the way that early bread crumbs in the story are used to close parts of the narrative in a really good way. but a steady 4⭐️ because the romance, their secret dates, the longing, the everything between them was perfect. Homegirl was a Mary Sue but she was the only character with some semblance of depth in this entire book. One glimpse of her viridian eyes makes me forget about the decades-long rivalry between our two towns. Just saying, if my boyfriend kissed a girl in front of me because he refused to listen and decided to believe the worst of me?Despite their being a team of guys relying on Wes to lead them to victory against their main rival, he falls for Maeve. Don’t even get me started on how the misunderstanding was because someone made a move on the FMC without her consent. I see myself reading this simply because it had the brother’s rival trope and it’s one of my favorites. Wes and Maeve met in secret majority of the time but I adored when she came to the final game in his jersey to support him 💞💘. With that said, though, I'm still planning on trying out another book by the author since the romance was cute and I'll cross my fingers the editing gets better. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, although I would've liked to see more of the couple's established relationship after all was set and done.Maeve is a girl also to be proud of - senior captain of the girls' soccer team, strong studious student, and also, the twin sister to the captain of her own school's football team. I was a little disappointed there wasn't as much spice as we usually get from CW Farnsworth but then I reminded myself that this is set in High school and therefore I completely understood it! It was nicely shown - they shared some really cute moments together and Wes proved to be a real dear, despite his star stature as the imposing captain of the football team.

Also, the fact that the twin-brother chastised the heroine and said she "could've let down his bestie easier" tells you all about the toxicity of this character.

He was pretty well developed as a character and was the right mix of flawed yet deserving of the girl.There was a healthy balance between all three storylines that successfully showed how each was vital to the other. There were a few missing words here and there and a couple times where the main character is talking to a friend and who that friend is changes throughout the scene. Maeve and Wes meet and the attraction starts their, even though they know of the disappointment and anger they would face from their rivaling towns. The storyline didn’t need pages of intimacy being described as the character building was so good throughout, it was clear what was happening but easily brushed over.
