About this deal

It is not a macro lens, but focuses close enough to be useful for flower portraits and other small subjects.

That said, stopping down the lens just a bit helps to mitigate it, and although it doesn't entirely disappear even by F2. The LUMIX G Experience is our dedicated online resource where you can learn how to take better pictures with your LUMIX G camera, create galleries of your work, find out about upcoming photographic events and exhibitions, and even win camera equipment and other prizes. The Panasonic/Leica 25mm disappointed a bit: it was good but I had expected it to be THE best of the bunch and it’s not. This is unlikely to be noticed in general photography and is hardly evident at all in branches against bright sky.

Just like f/number iso cannot be compared across different sensor sizes because it's a per unit area quantity and has nothing to do with the signal of the image. version is slightly sharper; however, you would have to peep very closely indeed to see the difference. The camera always open the aperture to wide open to focus and then goes back to your original aperture.

My suggestion is if your camera has a histogram make sure you have that enabled so you can see if your image is too bright.

But when I checked with my other lenses (including Olympus), I saw the exact same thing, only a bit more muted (so harder to spot and might only pop up with stronger light sources). As far as same amount of light, the sensor sensitivity does not change the amount of light it's getting. There is no weather resistance, so care should be taken in wet weather, but apart from this there is no hazard nor is there any reason why this could not be a general purpose, carry-anywhere lens offering a realistic and un-distorted view of the world.

The first was taken with the full frame Canon 1Ds Mark II at ISO 3200 and the second taken with the MFT PEN-F at ISO 5000. But the image quality is really very good indeed, the AF is fast, and this lens is so small and light you’ll hardly notice you’re carrying it. Lens hoods don’t just shield the lens from stray light, but also protect the front element from accidental bumps, and I would encourage their use as a matter of course. Some green and magenta fringing can be visible in out-of-focus areas of the frame at larger apertures, but it’s not overly distracting. Mu-43 is a fan site and not associated with Olympus, Panasonic, or other manufacturers mentioned on this site. In fact, the lens’s main flaw is when shooting directly into the light, where strong veiling flare can cover much of the frame. As explained, used at the same distance as the 50mm, they can provide the same image as the 50mm, aided by the higher resolution nowadays even at high ISO.
