About this deal

Don't miss Gran Luchito for a taste of Mexico, genuine Indian pickles and pastes from Fern's, or The African Foodie's range of authentic products from Tunisia to name a few. And the Bath Oliver is a modicum of decency, of old-fashioned British values, even; reliable, modest and true.

The reference to Bath Oliver biscuits by Mary Norton in ' The Borrowers' 1952 evokes an Edwardian gentility: ". Cheese has been made at Westcombe Dairy Farm since 1890, and Tom Calver is passionate about preserving that cheesemaking tradition. Once will not believe this but with each passing day he remembered very few things, one of which was guess what ? As early as 1584, Taunton was being advertised as cider country and for centuries cider production was a key factor in the economy. Many of you will be looking to make your own Bath Olivers at home for the times when it is increasingly difficult to find the Original Fortt’s Bath Oliver.

These biscuits are infamous – in fact it is said that John Lennon of The Beatles once refused to be paid in cash, preferring Chocolate Olivers instead!Similarly, Bath Oliver biscuits seem to evoke a nostalgic, very English, idyll in the first chapter of Puck of Pook's Hill by Rudyard Kipling: "[the child heroes of the story] were not, of course, allowed to act on Midsummer Night itself, but they went down after tea on Midsummer Eve, when the shadows were growing, and they took their supper—hard-boiled eggs, Bath Oliver biscuits, and salt in an envelope—with them. My Grandpa (Mums Dad), worked at a British Company (Asbestos Cement Limited, which manufactured Corrugated sheets in Mumbai, India) Since the early 80’s, Since I was born and went to school; my mums dad (Grandpa) in India, we were a family fond of the evening Tea Time and Biscuits. Amidst our selection of staples such as tinned foods, sugar, flour, salt and oils, prepare to be delighted by Bart's array of herbs and spices from around the world, artisan French fish soups from Crustarmor, and a new range of ambient charcuterie from The Real Cure in Dorset. One might think that a biscuit as storied and popular as the Bath Oliver would continue to be made until we started counting time in Stardates, but we would be wrong. The Sally Lunn yeast-based teacake, which can be eaten with sweet or savoury toppings, has already been mentioned in The Beauty of Bath, by Michele Deppe.
