A relatively quick middle grade book about fairies (or the others) who stole/tricked a little boy, a cursed/magical clockwork crow toy, and an orphan girl.

Ich habe es vollkommen stimmig für die Handlung empfunden, dass wir über sie nicht allzu viel erfahren.

Children of ten and older will find themselves pleasurably lost in this enchanting, candlelit delight. Auf der Zugfahrt träumt das Mädchen von ihrem neuen Leben, in einem behüteten Zuhause mit einer liebevollen Familie. Young orphan Seren (it’s Welsh for star) is travelling alone through a winter’s night to her godfather and his family. I didn’t really like the ending, and felt it was somehow too easy to get Tomos, after all she’s been through. Short but perfectly formed, this is a magical and atmospheric pair of books, with elements of classic children’s stories, traditional oral tale telling, and a dose of humour too.Various little things just annoyed me (at one point she guesses someone was once a schoolteacher, and they were, and there's pretty much zero clues having pointed to that), and while I liked the snowglobe idea re weather, I doubt I'll be remembering this one in a year's time. The Clockwork Crow clocks in at a mere 179 pages, but each and every page is chock-full of mystery and adventure.
