Your best bet for SC Live 4 alternatives will either be the Denon DJ Prime 4, or Pioneer DJ’s XDJ-RX3, depending on the ecosystem you prefer.
They both run the Engine DJ OS, which is the most powerful standalone DJ platform out there by quite a long way – yet their layout is more like club DJ gear, a first for Denon DJ. This represents the same layout found on the Denon DJ X1800 and X1850 club mixers and is in line with their leading competitor’s flagship mixer design, too. As stated earlier, it feels more like Numark gear – not necessarily a bad thing as Numark gear is built to last (and remember, Pioneer DJ gear is not scared of plastic, either), but it is also still a departure.
Since the unit can control four decks (the "decks" have "layer" buttons that let you choose between decks 1 and 3 on the left deck and decks 2 and 4 on the right deck), it can get a little crowded. For a standalone DJ controller designed with the club DJ in mind, go no further than the Denon DJ SC LIVE 4, which has a 7-inch touchscreen, built-in speakers, and a Wi-Fi connection across its four decks. Fixed an issue where the Ping Pong effect parameter would not visually represent the state of the effect (PRIME 4 and PRIME 4+). That's not a criticism, by the way - Numark units are excellent for their money, but it was a bit surprising to see Denon DJ units made of plastic. The option to also run the controller with Serato DJ or VirtualDJ in software mode makes the controllers even more flexible.For on-the-fly creative mixing, the 8 Performance Pads on each deck can be used to control Hot Cue, Auto Loop, Manual Loop, Roll, Slicer, and Slicer Loop modes. The Denon DJ SC Live 4 Standalone DJ Controller is an all-in-one system for beginner and professional DJs. All Channels have a 3-band EQ and a dedicated Hi and Lo sweep FX that can be assigned to one of four effects on the left of the mixer and you can select from 13 creative BPM FX and assign them to any of the individual channels or the master output. Fixed an issue where a track remained in the Prepare list when loading to a deck in certain situations. This enhanced warranty is in addition to the standard Gear4music and manufacturer warranty policies, and the Gear4music terms and conditions of trade.Especially when you get into the settings menu and in certain places where track info is displayed, the font just got too small for our liking. Our only real complaint is that to our eyes, the screens are just too small – and do bear in mind that the units aren’t really that much cheaper than the equivalent Prime units (if you can find them, that is). The Denon DJ SC Live 4 and 2 are decently featured standalone DJ systems that also work with Serato DJ and Virtual DJ software. Lastly, this version also brings various stability enhancements and improvements to provide a smoother user experience. We’d go for the SC Live 2 because it has better FX and proper colour coding on the pads, which make a big difference.
