About this deal

Extras start off with a new audio commentary by critics Bryan Reesman and Max Evry that covers all the bases, going over the history of the production and spending a fair bit of time covering Schumacher’s career up to this point. Arrow delivers a dynamic looking 4K presentation that clearly shows off the advantages of HDR, and I wasn’t expecting that at all with this film.

They learn about themselves, how their past has shaped them, but so too do they get a rush from the experience. The contrast within individual shots can be shocking, ranging from deep, pure blacks to intense whites (or colours) and clean gradients in between. Shadow details are plentiful, never lost or eaten up by the blacks, and the image never looks murky or milky. They consistently discuss the film while watching it together, with Reesman primarily providing real-life factoids about filming locations and the cast and crew, while Evry focuses a little more on the cinematography and the content of the film.

For example, Joe Eszterhas and the insane amounts of money he received for scripts that are mostly forgotten today never comes up. Atonement – Composer James Newton Howard and orchestrator Chris Boardman give us some input on their collaboration as well as the music heard in the movie. Flatliners joins the many films of my youth which I perceived as terrifying that are, in fact, not as chilling as once believed. Flatliners was first released on Blu-ray by Sony in 2007 and later reissued by Mill Creek in 2014, who utilized the same acceptable but ultimately mediocre transfer.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray director Niels Arden Oplev's thriller Flatliners (2017), starring Nina Dobrev, Kiersey Clemons, Ellen Page, James Norton, and Diego Luna. One by one they take a turn on the table, upping the ante by adding minutes every time and experiencing different things while dead, but with a sense of ease when they awaken. seriously arguing with the fact that this release is superior to the Sony release in both technical merits and some very appealing supplements.Perhaps the weakest moment in all of Flatliners, aside from not really dealing with Joe’s horrific misogyny, is that Nelson never really atones for his sin. The inspiration for the story, touched on in the commentary, comes from the term “accountability” being thrown around during the Iran-Contra scandal, and his friend dying for 15-seconds (in the commentary Reesman and Eyer mention his friends was actually dead for a minute-and-fifteen seconds and that it was from an allergic reaction to anesthesia). org, one of the premier destinations on the web to discuss DVD releases from The Criterion Collection, Masters of Cinema, and other DVD production companies from around the world. Elmo's Fire) tackles the existential question that, at one time or another, haunts us all: what awaits us after we die? There were also a few sequences early on in which the dialogue was briefly out of sync with the action.

Each one of the friends goes under (except Steckle) and each re-live some bad incident/occurrence while dead, which then follows them back to the live world. Yet unfortunately it’s not as engaging a track as I would have hoped, and it could just come down to the film not being one that requires a lot of discussion. Kimberly Scott ( The Abyss) and Beth Grant ( Donnie Darko) have limited screen time, but both leave lasting impressions as they are fantastic actors and always nice to see. Elmo's Fire, in part due to dynamic aerial photography or in other cases like familiar music cues courtesy of James Newton Howard ( Falling Down). But Nelson’s experiment has caused Billy to cross over as well and he’s not making life easy for him.Flatliners has a great premise and largely runs with it, but the script by Peter Filardi ( The Craft) could easily have benefitted from a few darker turns. Other topics include the striking cinematography and production design as well as how the film was shot like an action movie and the use of its Chicago locations. Nevertheless, the star power headlining this prototypical early-'90s genre feature, made for a then-aging MTV generation still addicted to fast-cut pacing and fancy camera tricks, is a big part of its success at the time and remains memorable after three decades.

Yet, Flatliners itself doesn’t chill or thrill in the ways one may expect when looking backward compared to how it may have been received at release. The movie is good, but not great and if taken with a grain of salt then I think others will find it as interesting as I did. Looking beyond the A-list headliners, there are three names in the supporting cast that deserve a quick mention. Unfortunately, when they do get into period topics like that the conversations end up being more along the lines of summaries and not as in-depth as they probably could be.Where the remake had the flatliners in an actual hospital, separating the day-to-day life and the night time adventures just to create an atmosphere, like a stage performance. Legendary composer James Newton Howard ( Stir of Echoes, The Fugitive) and orchestrator Chris Boardman share their memories of this film in Atonement (2022, 12 minutes). Visions of Light (HD; 18:23) is a 2021 interview with cinematographer Jan de Bont and chief lighting technician Edward Ayer.
