The G513 Tacticle and Linear offer great gaming performance and the keyboard itself is very comfortable to use. They have a very short pre-travel distance and require very little force to actuate, making them feel responsive and light. That meant certain cooldowns and combos were further out of reach than usual, requiring some muscle re-training during more intense moments.
Not only that, but under the hood you'll find Logitech's durable GX switches, which manage to evade that scratchy feel sometimes felt in Cherry models that are plugged into the vast majority of decks. Our unit uses Romer-G Tactile switches, which have a small tactile bump right before the actuation point. It also has much better ergonomics because it offers two incline settings and includes a wrist rest.
Unfortunately, the keycaps are made of ABS plastic that feels cheap and will attract oil from your fingertips. Logitech has designed the Romer-G to be a high performance mechanical gaming switch with faster and quieter actuation. As mentioned above, macros are limited to the function row, which keeps them out of my usual reach realm. Now, i'm focused on Nintendo Switch, gaming laptops (and the keyboards and mice that come with them), and tracking everything that suggests VR is about to take over our lives.
The G513 Carbon features a nice anodized aluminum finish while the G513 Silver has a sleek classy and stunning look to it which I really like. It doesn't have wireless connectivity, so you'll need to run a cable from the couch to the computer, which isn't ideal if you're worried about tripping over wires. However, the volume of reports online from other users may indicate this issue is more commonly experienced with this keyboard for unknown reasons. Although they're both full-size keyboards, the G815 is a low-profile mechanical keyboard, while the G513 has a more standard height. Easily the biggest difference between this keyboard and its predecessor is it commemorates the introduction of Logitech’s Romer-G Linear switch. That said, the lack of magnets or clips to keep the rest in place means it has an annoying tendency to slip out of position on occasion despite rubber feet on the underside of the pad. The ergonomics are decent, as it comes with a detachable wrist rest and one incline setting, which should help reduce pain and fatigue.Note: We didn't experience any issues with this keyboard's backlighting during testing, but we've received community feedback indicating that the Blue LED lights on this keyboard may tend to fail sooner than other colors.
