About this deal

The Hori PS4 Wired Mini Gamepad is a colourful controller cleverly designed to be both 40% smaller than the DualShock 4 and to have a flat design, making it easy for younger hands to manipulate. Well… I can happily say that all the features of the touchpad are still there but how to use them is complicated. With some other third party controllers there has been a need to shave off the excess, as the tolerances have been too tight.

Attractive, officially licensed Capcom art adorns the joystick's face and separates it from the all-black, original Fighting Stick Mini. The lack of such a feature is disappointing as I thought something like this would be mainstay feature for gaming controllers going forward.Sure, hits the directions just fine, but there’s a slight need to pay more attention on the direction pressed. The red review unit I tested features Ryu and Ken, the iconic Street Fighter II duo, in dramatic fighting poses, as well as the equally iconic Street Fighter II logo. Still, people with large paws (like me) may find the stick a hair too small for extended fighting game sessions. It does suffer from the D-Pad being a secondary input option, and the flat Cross shape doesn’t benefit from this.

Hori is known for their gaming peripherals such as controllers, arcade (fight) sticks and steering wheels.

More importantly, this controller seems to be an excellent candidate as a project controller, as the PCB lists contact points for all the buttons as well providing a nice round base to solder to. While it might not have all the serious gaming features of the DualShock 4, it does provide the perfect introduction to gaming for the younger generation, especially when used with an ever-growing collection of family-friendly games.
