About this deal

Another idea to use in the classroom related to this text would be to identify the main idea and use supporting details to explain it. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. The Fisherman's Daughter has an eye for patterns and carefully considers where each one should go, creating certain patterns as she works.

Girl’ persists through adversity and difficult situations to complete the tasks she has set herself, even though she knows this is going to take an extremely long time. However, on the few nights each month when the moon makes its journey to the other side of the world, her father is surrounded by total darkness.Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. I'm not sure I would give five stars to the story itself, but with the illustrations I really can't do anything but give a five star rating. She loves folklore tales and stories of Hindu Gods and Goddesses and these have been a rich source of inspiration in a number of her illustrations.

I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic! Her style incorporates her love of nature and her Indian roots, exploring the relationships between pattern, shapes and colour Being brought up surrounded by Indian fabrics, paintings and ornaments have heavily influenced her work. This book should be introduced for this genre because it is a perfect example of folklore with images that seem to fit the way that the story is told, making it easier to understand. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. But when the moon disappeared for a few nights each month, she worried about her father and how he would find his way home from the sea in the deep darkness. The illustrations are so vibrant and beautifully woven together with the relatively simple story of a girl placing stars in the sky to guide her father home. With many a children's book the text is placed almost randomly on the page ruining the power of the illustrations. This beautifully illustrated paperback picture book gives us a new folk tale, and a new way to look up at the night sky. Mistry incorporates her Indian roots into her art, and draws from Indian folklore to create this tale. Since the main idea in most folklore pieces is clear and focused, this could be used in a grade like third grade when they are just beginning to refine their comprehension strategies.

Mama Polar Bear tells her cubs about what lies outside their den, and reassures them not to worry or be frightened: ‘hush now, you’re snug with me. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! In this story, the sun sends down a ray of light that shatters, and the daughter is told to place them in the sky to provide light for her father. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally).

How the Stars Came to Be is a beautifully illustrated story of a girl who is concerned about her father (a fisherman) getting home safely at night when the moon is not present in the sky.Influenced by traditional Indian textiles, paintings and ornaments, the intricate illustrations are hand-drawn in black ink before being manipulated by computer software to incorporate colour and adjust composition. The sun takes pity on the girl and throws a golden ray of light down to earth, where it shatters into a million glittering pieces. The book: This is a story about how the sun helped a little girl light up the sky in the absence of the moon at night. How the Stars Came to Be" is a great read aloud for K-5, and could be read independently by older student (4-5).
