He never won the Perrier at the Edinburgh fringe: “But then again, that’s never appealed to me,” he wrote in his autobiography. That child actor was Oliver Savell – who appeared in Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast – and producers Baby Cow have now released a YouTube video showing Carr surprising him with the news. The most heartfelt and raw parts of this autobiography were the reflections on Alan's childhood - as much as this autobiography was written and narrated with his cheeky tone - and growing up in the shadow of his football manager father. I thought that this could be due to the fact that he comes across as a bit whiny-moany especially when talking about his time at BarclayCard and then when he was struggling in the comedy circuits.

Update: Since BCG published this story, ITV have revealed on Lorraine that the part of the young Alan Carr will be played by relative newcomer Oliver Savell. It looked funny watching it from my sofa but Alan said that running through the audience was quite scary. A further reason for allowing smokers to smoke while undergoing counselling is Carr's belief that it is more difficult to convince a smoker to stop until they understand the mechanism of "the nicotine trap". The book is really well written and I found it surprisingly inspiring – which is why I would recommend it to anyone, not just Alan Carr fans – you might not appreciate the humour, but I think you’ll find some inspiration – it’s not exactly a rags to riches story, but even if you get knocked down – you gotta get back up.

I remember telling my mum about the time I stopped that woman from having a diamond encrusted necklace stolen and she'd say 'No Alan, that was Poirot. He has performed at the Apollo Theatre in London, which was televised for the BBC One series Live at the Apollo, and has been featured in the Royal Variety Performance. There are darker shades to some of his tales; his battles with his own lack of self confidence, trying to help with his then-partners alcohol dependency and then having to act as a carer after said partner suffered a rather unpleasant mishap, all while working hard on his rapidly burgeoning career. Often reviews and promotional quotes will say a book is "laugh out loud" and "hilarious" but this book actually is.

Whilst Alan hasn’t really had any negative press or any scandals, this book does delve into his partner’s alcoholism and about the struggles it had on their relationship. Told with warmth and wit, it follows Alan’s journey through puberty, adolescence, and finally self-discovery, all against the backdrop of Thatcher’s Britain. There are six of us in this photo studio, including Carr’s manager, makeup, wardrobe and a publicist from ITV.

I'd heartily recommend this to anyone who want's a light hearted heartwarming read and a bit of a giggle. Names like Off The Kurb and Agroman - The Human Anogram and it is intersting to read these people's different experiences with these mutual people. And now I’ve lived with someone with addiction and seen how out of control it is and the emotional turmoil.

Among the showbiz celebrities in the hot seat are Gyles Brandreth, Jennie Bond, Antony Worrall Thompson, Esther Rantzen, Janet Street-Porter and Edwina Currie, while the rounds include Love It Or Hate It, True or False, That Special Day and Life's a Pitch.

I ask if his oft-repeated story, that he used to fantasise about greeting school bullies in a chauffeur-driven car wearing a fur coat, is true. His unique humour and effortless stage presence have earned him a catalogue of awards including Best Chat Show host at the publicly voted for 2015 National Television Awards, winner of the 2013 BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance and 2013 British Comedy Award for Best Comedy Entertainment Personality. He has performed stand-up internationally, including an appearance at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. Carr went on to host two series of Channel 4's game show Alan Carr's Celebrity Ding Dong from 2007 to 2009, and the chat show Alan Carr: Chatty Man, which ran for 16 series from 2009-2016, with Christmas Specials in 2016 and 2017.It just makes me happy listning to him, a normal person that don't do drama or hurt others with his book. As others have said, and Alan himself acknowledges here, that means this is more of a collection of anecdotes rather than a linear life story as the first book was. Alan will star in the series as himself in present day, whilst taking on the role of young Alan is rising star Oliver Savell (Belfast). Carr hosted the radio show Going Out with Alan Carr on BBC Radio 2 (2009–2012), as well as releasing his autobiography book Look Who It Is!
