What you get is a wonderful old school musky leathery accord that is found in the old greats like Vintage Bel Ami and Vintage Derby by Guerlain. The new bottle is completely different: after an hour or so I can barely smell anything, and whatever is left there to be noticed is completely different from the smell I get from my previous bottle.

If you’ve smelled other oakmoss/patchouli/soapy men’s fragrances before, your nose won’t really be surprised by anything in Aramis. I can’t give this a full review, because the only reason I’m reviewing this is because I smelt it as someone walked past me on the street and It took me awhile to realise what it was, and I mean Jesus it nearly put hairs on my chest! I wouldn't say this is necessarily going to be a go-to for the office for someone who's under the age of 35, but it definitely is safe for the office as it isn't really that animalic or brash.It made me wonder how much money I could make if I just urinated into a bottle and tried to sell it as a fragrance. Due to the retro nature, I'd say this one swings to a slightly older age bracket, but it's still very wearable unlike many other retro powerhouse frags. minutes in, wood and mossy notes start to shine through but remain quite covered by all the beautiful herbal notes.

That said, I find them to be almost two completely different fragrances now -- in spite of the new version being recognizably Aramis in its own right.I carried Aramis as a young man in the '80s, and wearing it again to day was a trip down memory lane, a feeling of coming home to the basics. I am 54 years old, and I think fragrances serves to complement a well groomed person… well bathed, nicely dressed… fragrances are meant to make you smell good… be it sweet or dry, floral or woody, fruity or citrus. To me, Aramis Aramis is the definition of alpha-male classic fragrance for a well-dressed business executive with ambition.
