About this deal

This book was simply perfection from beginning to end, I just couldn’t put it down, it was that good. I recommend this to hopeless romantics, people who daydream as a hobby, Greek mythology enthusiasts, those who love a histrionic dialogue, the brave souls who don't mind a trope or a hundred. Unfortunately, for her, she ambushes Reed’s older brother, Nash, who is much grumpier and very rude. I’ve been missing the bite that darker enemies to lovers romances like this have, and I might need to start reading more of it again. I think my other favorite moments were any time Nash made himself vulnerable, whether it was with Emery or Delilah.

Devious Lies is the story of two souls who have lost their way and are trying to find it back, and end up finding each other (again) in the process. LET'S SUSPEND DISBELIEF and pretend it's possible that none of them realized they weren't who they thought they were.It was all based on the hero believing one out-of-context thing he heard, from the most untrustworthy person on this planet, that he held over the heroine's head for years, acting like she told some devious lies (omg look it's the title🤪) when he never even bothered to ask. I’m with you on the underwhelming reaction to finding out they’d been each other’s anonymous “pen pal. When she’s not writing or exchanging food pics with her friends, she’s binge-watching an unhealthy amount of Netflix while curled up with her dogs. can you guys now understand why this book was so painfully long…because why not just say her nipples were hard and leave it at that or maybe just shut the fuck up? as the author, I understand she's trying to convey the history of these two wounded people to create depth and understanding.

Reed was the beneficiary of a lot of Nash’s good deeds and it allowed him to grow up without some pretty hefty burdens. It’s a fantastic book – darker than my usual these days – and I’d love to read more with a similar vibe. It’s been about two years since she’s had a solo release, and her last two books both made my Best of the Year lists – this and Darling Venom (review here).

For the record, Heath Ledger played the best Joker, and I’d annihilate anyone who argues with me about it. like the beginning of a chapter would pick up exactly where the previous chapter ended and then during the chapters it would like change…it was so fucking backwards, i can’t even explain it. there are at least three instances in which these two characters interact but DON'T RECOGNIZE EACH OTHER even though they have known each other THROUGHOUT THEIR WHOLE LIVES. Was the book a little long with too many flashback segments, yes, but as a reader, I have the luxury of speed-reading.
