The water and environment at the Hakushu distillery is vastly different to that of the Yamazaki distillery; as is the creation process. The Hakushu 18 YO Peated Single Malt is comprised of meticulously selected malt whiskies all aged for a minimum of 18 years in various casks, created in honour of House of Suntory’s centenary. This Japanese 12 year old whisky is just superb, everything about it is perfectly balanced from the very first nosing, typical Japanese know how from start to finish. The Hakushu Distillery blenders work with peat, while naturally softening the palate was using the exceptionally pure mountain water of the area, filtered through ancient granite rocks. Both lightly-peated and heavily-peated malts were used for this complex and deeply enjoyable whisky.
