Shears drops many names but even if you didn't know the characters involved you would still be able to "know" them through Shears' words. the middle new York section was disappointingly unromantic, but it more than makes up for it by the end. There, she met my handsome father, twenty years her senior, with two small girls and a teenage boy from previous marriages to women that he’s told me were a disaster.My sisters would get their hair done at a beauty parlor that had a huge painting on its front window of a woman with giant, Medusa-like locks. There was a Wednesday-evening church group that I attended, and one night everyone brought their fathers. When a book has already been blurbed by the likes of Armistead Maupin and Sir Elton John and reviewed by Lambda Literary, there isn’t much that my two cents is going to add to the buzz. Then, at the age of 25, in 1972 he wrote a song about a dead skunk and leapt from critic's darling to popular success, since then he's recorded twenty-seven albums, won a Grammy Award and sold-out the London Palladium. It would have been a mess, a gory birthday party, with a lot of cleanup involved, not to mention my poor mother would have had to have been put back together.

In fact, when I was at 90%, I was wondering how the hell Shears would fit the rest of his career into such a small space, but he really didn't. For many the most interesting part of the book will be the third part, which tells the story of the Scissor Sisters.There were far too many off-hand mentions of people and places that he never really gave reason for that it just began to feel like name dropping for the sake of it. Or Windi told me that if I got hair spray in my face, my eyes would turn blue and I’d die in a matter of minutes.

As soon as the first specter popped out at the five-minute mark, the fabric of my reality unraveled even further.
