About this deal
There are some parts of this book that contain diary notes of their son Max and his writing is exceptional for a young man.
At the time of his unfortunate end, the story is that of this couple struggling to reconcile their respective needs for fulfillment and employment with Lowe's frequent absences. her Alex and my Jared are cut from the same cloth and perhaps are climbing together in the afterlife. After all, Jenni Lowe-Anker's experience is exactly the other half of what happens in something like Into Thin Air: there are the dead climbers, yes, and then there are their families left behind, who are sometimes flatly, mutely rendered, left without voice in narratives that prize the blizzard outdoors to the one inflicted on the "homefront".
This memoir, published almost a decade after Alex's death examines their 18-year relationship with clear eyes and deep love. You don't have to be a climber or even an outdoors person to like this book, but considering the other reviews I've read, I am seemingly in the minority about the effect this book has on me.I was relieved to read about the love she found with her current husband, Conrad Anker, and the love they share as a family with Max, Sam and Isaac.
